My fiancee's mum has bought us an XBOX as a Christmas/engagement present.

What's the most realistic driving game to get once the novelty of the Kinect stuff wears off? :-)

I have a grudge match with a friend in the States at some point - I think he has a Forza of some description...

Nothing beats forza 4.
If you want to race roads rather than tracks then forza horizon is good but you can't do as much to the cars compared to forza 4

Truthfully driving sims and consoles don't completely go hand in hand.

Although in saying that the Forza series is excellent and the best buy for xbox imo. For example the only reason I stopped playing Forza 3 was because Forza 4 came out, bearing in mind that Forza 4 was released 2 years after 3.

I still play F4 regularly now as do many PH'ers. thumbup

Race Pro is a great 'driving' game. It's not a great 'game', though.

Also, you'll struggle to find people on line. But if you do the standard of racing is very high!

Forza is OK, it's a better game but the driving doesn't touch Race Pro.

Turns out 'said friend has Forza 4 (along with half of PistonHeads by the looks of it...) so I'll be investing in a copy of that, I think.

This man speaks sense. Forza is fun, but not a sim. Race pro isn't either, really, but much more so than forza.

Only played Froza for an hour or two and it infuriates me with the steering, even with every assist off it's like driving a truck, a truck that won't let you point the wheels where you want them and makes it impossible to correct oversteer.

I found this too but I stuck with it & it definately gets better, I promise.

The "truck" feeling is still there to some degree, but I think it's probably to make it feel more "real" as opposed to just launching your car at a corner and have it go round like it's on rails.

Stick with it. The Audi RS6 is a fantastic piece of kit.

I know this is of no help, but GT5 with the G25 wheel (and a playseat, because I'm a 30 year old 10 year old) can be good.

Turn the aids off, pick a sensible car with some sh*tey tyres and the game is very, very hard! I know it's not a hardcore sim, but it's better than what I alot of people give credit after playing the fastest car, aids on, with silly sticky tyres.

Some good racers on there, too.

Well I come from proper race sims on the PC like rFactor and Live for Speed etc. In those if you want you can point the front wheels (not the car) wherever you want and they go there whether the effect is under steer or oversteer etc. Forza seems to constantly fiddle with how far you can move the wheel to maintain zero understeer and in those moments you need to correct oversteer it seems to wait an eon before realising what you want to do by which time it yanks the wheel round when you dont expect it and over corrects....

I won't give up though, I'll stick with it. It's better than the TV smile

Grid is quite good in all honesty. Realistic damage. Frustrating. At times

That was my experience of playing GT5 briefly. I'm a fan of the SimBin PC games like GT Legends and GTR2 so I'm fully expecting this to be a bit more arcadey. Sounds like a good way of settling our transatlantic grudge match, though. smile

There are three settings for steering IIRC - Assisted, Normal, and Simulation. Assisted will do what you're saying I think. If you have a controller go for the middle setting, if you have a wheel, go with Simulation. To go fast you need to have STM, TCS and ABS switched off, and definitely use manual with clutch.

With those settings it's quite possible to make vehicles understeer like a greased cow on ice.

Another vote for RacePro as well.

Head and shoulders above Forza for the actual driving 'feel' but still falls short of the PC sims.
As said - not much going online now as it's an old title but the quality of racing was very good.

This. Seriously, all the "Aids" do is slow you down, and you get paid for having them off anyway...
Set the difficulty to expert, then stick transmission to manual with or without automated clutch as preferred, then alter the opponent difficulty, then it feels alright.

Just be aware the AI is carp at cornering.

Had a bit of a play with Forza now and starting to get used to steering with the controller. It's great fun and I very much look forward to gatecrashing the PH league, but the physics model is nowhere near as accurate as the PC sims. Sound and graphics are brilliant, though.

Good man, keep an eye out for various threads on certain championships etc being run.

Also get yourself on the Official PH club thread and ask for an invite into the club, should help you along having club cars to use thumbup

Oh and my GT is Akmedlovespork if you fancy adding me for some racing smile

Will do. I've not even set up an XBOX ID thingy yet and I'm going to be flat out with work for the next few weeks, but once the dust settles I'll be on there.

Having now spent a few hours playing for a week or so I've come to the conclusion that it's a fantastic game.

I did have a very brief foray online and was somewhat, although not unexpectedly underwhelmed by what I found. s using the car in front as their brakes, s in blacked-out drift VW's that are way quicker than my full GT2/3 race cars, and just general s that can't drive for st.

Somebody please point me in the direction of some PHers that actually want and CAN race!

I have everything set to off / manual as it is and it still fiddles with it too much. Problem is it means you never really know if the cars understeering or the games just messing with the steering again....

I've got used to it but occasionally it still catches me out.
