Right side headlamp goes up, but does not go down.
Wind it down..... it still goes up ok.
Swapped left & right realays no change.

My thoughts are;
This proves the change over contacts in the relays are good.
Considering the motors only move in one direction and the pods operate from a rod and crank the fault should be the contact on the long strip in the motor.

Is my logic correct?

(The fault just appeared as it was going into winter storage, so not convenient to pull out the motor or remove the cover plate)

My first instinct would be a dirty connection on one of the external motor connectors

After checking and cleaning / roughing up the connecting blocks i would then look at the copper strip buzz bar in the motor under the plastic cover. Do the same in terms of cleaning and rough up the contacts carefully!! Repeat on both sides and then make sure you have a good seal on the covers when you put them back together. Jobs a good un!

Let us know how it goes fella!

A couple of additional thoughts...

In order of most likely, IMHO....

1. A faulty/corroded connection in the multiblock to the motor itself, and also in the connectors behind the driver's headlamp pod (is that the same for V8 and V6 ?) make sure they are all clean. A layer of green 'crap' is all too common in the connectors.

2. Motor - You can check the switches (strips) electrically with a test meter before taking it apart to confirm it's not working properly. (I keep recommending wedgers buy a little testmeter, they are extremely useful little tools for anything electrical)

3. It can also be the little pins (that work the levers) in the mechanism that give trouble

4. It could be one of the diodes inside the motor switch box ( last and least likely).

Nothing to add to the foregoing, the usual suspect points have been covered... but in case you don't have it, here are the circuit diagrams for the lights which may help to confirm your supicions as to where the problem lies:
