A four year old R8 beats the new 991, says it all really. As a lot of us think on here 997 was the last 911.
Even the Aston V8S sounds better now.

I'm totally not interested in the 991...FOC factory fresh- I'd take a 997.2 C2S over the 991.1C2S.

Article is nearly a year old and not really reflective of the critical consensus, nor very perceptive regarding the car's merits. Some of the criticism is valid, but the perspective is incredibly short-sighted: no regard is paid, for example, to the unbearable ride quality of the 2nd placed Nissan. Yes, I too would like to hoon around in someone else's track toy for an afternoon, but live in one, day in day out? You've got to be kidding.

It's interesting to note the recent surge in 991 ownership here in PH. Not so long ago someone highlighted the slow uptake of the 991 by PHers. Now there's a new one every day. We've mostly all enjoyed a very good deal equating the cost more closely to that of a 997 and none of us are thinking of selling to step back in time... or ability...

Criticise by all means, but don't expect to understand the advances made by the everyday sports car until you've lived with one every day...

Yes but evo is out once a month so what do you suggest they do
Test each car for a month then write a report?

The article says on the 2 days of full on testing the 991 came in 3rd
The evo triangle tests cars for pure driving pleasure not the daily commute.

And I bet if they repeated the test with a year's perspective the 911 would come top, especially with proper winter tyres. Those conditions don't suit the OEM Pirellis which probably accounts for the vagueness far more than the PDCC. All good cars though... Enjoy whatever flavour floats your boat.

Jethro Bovingdon in evo ranks the Boxster much higher than the 991.

Jethro Bovingdon in Car and Driver ranks the 991 as 'brilliant' and has it beating the Boxster.

They also rank an 'auto' car above a manual 991. Whilst always being a manual fanatic, I think the 991 is designed around the superlative PDK. Apples and pears?

Says it all really.

Does anyone seriously believe what these jockeys write? They have to toe the editorial line just like every other scribbler.

The thing with the 991 is they don't excite me. I am sure they are very competent, but that's not the point is it.

But what to do about it? It's a real mind fk.

All I know for sure is that the 991 GT3 is probably the most important car Porsche will make to date.

It has to deliver on every level. We shall see.

Most of the journalists say that Gt86 was the best sports car of 2012. It is quite normal to like boxster and cayman more than 911.
Maybe they hate PDCC? Motortrend said that it added understeer and advised not to spec it.

To my recollection, no other journalist has made this observation. Maybe in the couple of days they had the car they didn't work out how to drive it properly. I've had mine for six months, as have other PHers. Understeer is not an issue with PDCC. Not on my car anyway.

I agree here, the PH community is far from representing 991 buyers worldwide most who will be totally unaware of the GT3 at all.
It will be significant to very few and Porsche have to get it right for even that to be the case.

"the most important car Porsche will make to date." like it or not, in business terms it has to be the new Cayenne.

I owned an R8 and now i own a 991c2s. Having lived with both of them I can safely state the 991 is much the better car - and that's saying some, as I thought the R8 beat a 997.1 hands down. So I read this evo article as a bunch of hacks looking for controversy. There's a reason why evo kept it unpublished for almost a year!

Agreed, having owned a 997s,turbo then r8 and having driven several 991s ,the 991 is the king.
Evo's verdict is unusual as well ,the 991 has won most comparison tests I have seen.

If you read the origin of the quote - the controversy is that the same journo like the Boxster better in one mag and the 991 better in another review, describing it as brilliant.

The point is not which one is liked - it is the consistency of opinion in different mags. It certainly questions objectivity and integrity.

In business terms today, yes of course it's the cayenne. But long term it's not as simple. I believe that Porsche is nothing without the 911, it's the heart. And the ultimate 911 is the GT3.

Porsche knows this very well. I mean, why bother to make the GT3 at all if its only for a few thousand obsessives?

Porsche have a fantastic brand and why is that? Because of the diesel cayenne? It built the brand over years of racing and producing great road sports cars of which the star is the 911.

All of the other models reflect in its glory and as a result succeed.

The new GT3 is VERY important to Porsche. It is honour, reputation, and needs to prove to the world that Porsche is a serious sports car manufacturer. And the best.

Melons and lemons.

I think the r8 looks will not age well. Gt-r is plain ugly 991 looks best with finally a nice interior. They are prcey for sure, maybe this will keep it more exclusive than the 997. Let's hope
