Had this on the Griff section for a bit now but nothing found to date so wondered if we'd any experiance over here rolleyes (see post in Griff section)

Getting there now... i pulled it all back to metal in the end and its now had 3 coats of POR15... did have a few issues with the silver not going on and wanting to run off!!!... anyway, it needs flatting back everywhere and a primer / key coat or two adding... then I need to get it white?

could do with a spray, thats semi gloss white, with 200 deg c potential... thats oil resistant and will go onto undercoated areas?.....

does it exist?????

There is something on E-bay that says 180 deg but does not say C or F.. will call them tomorrow smile

So why did you not just use white POR15?

Would still be my choice.

Agreed the silver POR15 is a nightmare.

Is there white POR15?.. is it gloss?... the main issue is that it will not come in a spray can and I have no spray gun etc smile

Also just looked at the spec.. it gives no max temp use and shows it being applied to sinks etc??... may not take the temp?.. it's called WhiteCote if this is the one you mean

have you used it??

I did my Cerb chassis/suspension resto in white gloss POR15. Its called 'hard nose' white paint if my memory serves me correctly.

Has it stood up to the temps (not sure how close things get in a Cerb)... It does not give a max temp for WhiteCote and shows it being used on sinks / bathe etc... so assumed it had no temp resistance?...
also same problem as before.. ie getting it on... I wanted to spray the top coat to get a nice finish but I have no air gun... so really need it to come in spray can's...

Can't you get paint put into can's??... smile

you seem overly worried about heat resistance, most normal paints are ok up to 100 degrees c, your manifolds where attached to the heads will reach around 250 degrees c, unless your manifolds are touching the chassis you shouldn`t have a problem.

It came as a two pack in tins. I'll post some pics when I get the time, to show the brushed on finish.

Hi Clive... for what ever reason on my car, the manifolds do run close to the top chassis rails.. may be only 10-15mm gap.. as you say, the headers can run at 250-300c I would have thought... so it's possable to get may be 150c into to top tubes when standing a lights on a warm day with no airflow????...
just wanted to get the best I could... I know some radiator enamels will go to 150c so may be thats another option... either that of doing the top tubes in reflective Ali tape?.....

but it has taken the original powder in places.. and that's good for 180c?... have a look at the oridinal post in the Grief section smile

just had a look at my old griff photos, you`re right it is closer than I remembered, I would paint and then fit a strip of heat reflective tape on in the area that is close to the manilfolds. I dont think you would see it once all assembled?

Hi Bill.. yes.. thats the one I've looked at... it is expensive though... and does not come in a spray form... that said, I've just spent the day etch primering the POR15... I think I'm going to give up on trying to get a smooth finish !! laugh

Yes they say it dries to a brushless finish but even with a decent quality brush it can be a bit lumpy! Been on 12 months now and still looks ok

TBH I'm not 100% with the POR stuff now... I've raved about it in the past but the issues I've had this time have put me off....
I did the prep giving it 30 mins in acid against the 20 mins stated... then got it to rust up a bit.. and even then, the base coat broke away in a couple of places.
the silver would not stick to the black unless you put loads on... and then it ran all over.... and the etch stuff is like painting with glue....
I've followed all the instructions but I'm not impressed....
Frost's did swap out the silver for me so may be they have had problems reported from others?..... have they changed this stuff??

so may just get some spray on radiator enamel...

I'm sure this will be okay??... smile

Hi Bill.. getting back to the White POR top coat

can you remember if you used a tie coat.. or did you paint it straight on top of the POR15 itself?

I've done POr15 black and tie coat.. but not sure if the White hard coat should go on top on the POR15 base or tie-coat??... Cheers
