Hi Chaps,

I have been offered a job in Montreal which I am seriously considering. Is it possible to drive in Canada on UK plates or get the car re-registered over there? Alternatively, could I bring it in as a track day car only?

This could be a deciding factor!

Any info appreciated!

I believe the N. American forum has died and is no longer on-line....

Im pretty sure that I wont be able to import an Ultima to Canada. I'm probably going to be working there for 2-3 years then returning. I have been doing some research and there is lots of information on importing a car, but I can't see much about taking one over for a 'holiday'. My thoughts were to drive it for as long as I can on UK plates then store it and perhaps trailer it to track day events.

Cheers!

It may be possible, but to get a determination you'd need to contact Transport Canada.

There is such a temporary import (up to 36 months) for cars from the US if you are entering temporarily under a valid student or work visa. It is not clear whether that extends to other countries.

Official details here;

Good luck,

Hi Clive!

Do you have any more details? See the car is coming on well. Do you have shares in billet aluminium? :-)

Well I took the job so I'm off to Montreal in 5 weeks time! It has taken 6 years to build my Ultima and it ran for the first time this week. Great timing!!

Just hope I can take it with me as it would break my heart to sell her now.

Hey Clive. You will only be a 5 day drive from me now!! You can pop in for a cuppa!

Well done Mart, how long are you going for or is it a permanent job?
I guess you won't make our usual meet at Stoneleigh this year then smile
Fingers crossed in taking the car with you.

Good luck
Graham
