Hello!

Just looking into getting a 350z as my next car and there's some confusion over the tax classification.

Previously I'd been under the impression that a standard UK car registered before 2006 was in tax band K, therefore £270 ish for a year. If it was an import, or the 313bhp model or registered after 2006 then it was £470 a year.

Just been looking on auto trader and under the car specifications tab on every UK car earlier than 2006, it states they are tax band M.... the mega expensive band. Confused??

Did some research and came across this link where it seems to mention they were all reclassified as tax band M at some point. http://zclub.net/forum/general-discussion/12064-ho...

Can anyone shed any light please?

Thanks!

They're ALL band M (presumably) by emissions, but pre March 2006 ones get put into a lower band (unless they treat 350Zs as some kind of exception, which seems very unlikely).

Autotrader will show details for the latest edition of the car, means the data is wrong for an earlier car.

Cars Pre 2006 will be priced as band K

Cars emitting over 225g/km and first registered between 1 March 2001 and 23 March 2006 are all treated like band K. (i.e £270)

But everyone's friend George Osborne said something very wishy washy about car tax going to have to be looked at in the last budget.

Do Jap Imports not get the standard cheaper (£250ish) tax ?

Certainly American imports do.

I think for new cars it should be the same in pounds as the emissions in co2, then all those spending thirty odd grand on a new car get to pay something, ludicrous that people spending all that pay less than someone with a ten year old Mondeo as they can't afford better

It would be better if they just ditched it TBH, save a load of pointless hassle.
