Hi all just wondering how many people have bought any of the new road bike range,i have bought a cube peleton and am a bit suprised by the quality of some parts fitted......yes i know its not a top end bike but for a grand plus the parts that have given up the ghost after 280 miles is not good in my book.
1 The front calipers have corroded to a very bad level on all the bolts,and they are ste in the wet
2 The selle italia saddle has decided to disintergrate...and looks fifty years old its got wet once and all the covering has come off or is on its way.
hope this trouble does not carry on with other parts cos this is my winter/work bike and i dont think it will last two minutes at this rate
has anyone else had issues with their cubes or is it just me.

I have a Cube Peleton Race and am really happy so far with it. 500 miles in and so far I have killed the bottom bracket, so upgraded and is so much nicer than a shimano one, one rear tyre worn and after a chilly ride, I didnt feel well so put it away. The following week I cleaned it ( wasnt that dirty to be honest) and the salt had eaten through the plating on the caliper pivot bolts. Not really the bikes fault. Would like to get some stainless bolts and replace them. Nice bike. Just changed the bar tape as the original was very thin and not much vibration damping. Other than that, I am happy with mine.

Dont get me wrong i love the bike,and i dont mind upgrading.....but as in your post you have allready replaced the bottom bracket....this cant be right can it.my caliper bolts were dried when it got wet and is stored in a heated room...so in my book it should not happen.The covering on the saddle is paper thin to say the least and would never last,i thought the selle italia saddles were made well.....but not in this case.

I could have taken it back to the shop I got it from and got the BB replaced, but a Tiagra BB is only a tenner. With the shop being 100 miles each way I thought it easier to just buy a new better one. Shimano external BB's are not very good with friction losses and sealing, so no big issue. its the same on any bike with that spec of BB. A lot of places wont warrant a BB as saying its a consumable. As for the saddly, mines fine at the moment, but may change it to a more personal comfy one at some point.
I have a headset on an MTB which has done a dozen rides. Its seized. Sent it back and explained it wasnt fit for purpose and they have rejected the claim as the 'bearings are worn' Which is pathetic. Thats cycling, although they wont be getting any of my money ever again, so they are the ones loosing out in the long term, although they arent really fussed.

Justin i have a couple of bikes myself,one a 6 year old cannondale which yes cost me over 4 grand but has never as yet put a foot wrong.Its all durace mavic and a beautiful crank set up,its done many many miles and still looks like it has just come out of the box.must say the cube does give a good ride and i do love the overall look of the bike so i will carry on upgrading it as she needs it .ps my felt ar4 has a carbon crank made by fsa any idea what these bottom brackets are like.My crank set up on the cube is 105 i think, what bottom bracket set up did you go for.

I have found through experience that the only way to 'prevent' failure or short life expectance on parts is to build the bike yourself. Therefore all the hidden cheap parts that mass produced bikes normally consist of ( cheap headsets, stems, seatposts, bottom brackets) can be ruled out from the beginning. Spending shed loads on a bike is the other option. I built up a Colnago CT1 with Record and Chorus stuff in years gone passed and was a lovely bit of kit. Did what was expected. Of all my bikes I own, the Cube is the only production bike I own. So guess things do get hidden in £800 bike, which is what it cost me. It will see me into road biking again ( hung up the drops a few years ago) and I am loking at building a Dolan Mythos with Ultegra/ Sram in the near future if I keep in on the road bikes.

Does spin very smooth for a cheapy unknown BB and is quiet compared for the creaky clicky Tiagra.

I also have a cube peloton Pro '12, have done around 5-600 miles on it in the last 6 months of this year and haven't had a problem, did 150miles down to bournemouth on it and it gave me no problems!

Thanks for that bud will look into this set up.I have cycled on and off for 30 odd years now and do tend to build my bikes up.....only this year i have for some unknown reason taken a shine to a few off the shelf machines . saw a felt ar4 on a sunday ride and fell in love with it so had to get one,then decided it was to good for work and getting stty,so i purchased the cube.The cube saddle looks really nice but saddles are probably the first upgrade for most of us.....have ordered a new one now.....same make just a better one.have sold 3 bikes this tear which have been kicking around,but i kinda wish i had kept at least one,as this would have done as a hack
