I'm about to replace the rear tyres on my '05 M6 and have narrowed it down to the following -

Michelin PS2 - £263 each
Pirelli PZero Rosso – £277 each
Continental Sport Contact 5P - £267 each

Swaying towards the Michelins, seems like a decent price and have been very happy with them on previous cars. Anyone got any preferences on the above selection of tyres? Or indeed alternatives...

I know Vredesteins are well regarded by some people on these cars but I'm struggling to find a supplier, can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm in Northern Ireland so would need somewhere that delivers.

Thanks,
Stu

What's on the front? Would personally want to have matching front and rear tyres, so unless the fronts need replacing soon or they are not a quality brand, go for the same tyre.

Falken 452s are on it at the minute. Traction is pretty poor in the wet, although that may be because of the reduced tread. You happy enough with them?

I had them on my Maserati and XJR. You're right wet grip is average but they're hard to beat for the price. Michelin PS2s have the best wet performance in my experience.

Michelin PS2 is a very old tyre now (but still good), however Michelin Pilot SuperSport has moved the game on significantly. If you shop around you should be able to get these for a similar price.

Hi there
Can you tell what size tyres are on your m6
Just seeing if they are different to my e60 m5.

I'd personally choose Michelin.
Less tyre noise, more grip in both dry and wet over Pirellis.
When I had pzeros on my M6, they felt really hard.
It performed quite well after a warm up (nearly as good as Michelin) but in general it wasn't as good as Michelin PS2. PS3 might even be better.
I wouldn't recommend Contis if you drive your car quite hard.

At the moment I'm running
255/40/19 front michelin PS2
285/35/19 rear pzero (had to change to pzeros from michelin due to tyre puncture)

now I have 295/35/19 Michelin PS3s waiting to be fitted.
I just need some deserted place in Midlands where I can burn some tyres before I change..

Without a doubt i would take the continental everytime,

living up in scotlkand and having poor weather alot, i found that these area fantastic all rounder, probably unbeatable in wet driving in my z4mc when i had it.

the new michelin's are a cracking dry tire, once they get a bit of heat in they really grip, but tread depth is reduced from new and in my experience just dont give the feel of the conti.

if you can try and get a conti 3 and not a 5 (i found the 3 a nicer tyre) but both brilliant.

they even managed to come with a couple of track days, although a pretty soft compound overall.

Just to be clear the PS3s are NOT a direct replacement for the PS2s. You'd need pilot supersports for direct replacement. I wouldn't use anything different on an M6.

Must admit, i love the Vredesteins on my M5. Had them on my RS6 too and they are brilliant. Quiet, hard wearing, very good in the dry and the best you can get in the wet. They even have a rim protector built in so you dont kerb your alloys.

As far as I can see, the Vredesteins aren't available in M6 sizes...

Ah, ok. Can you go 10mm wider or narrower?

Camskill are doing Pilot SuperSports for £245 each delivered, pretty decent. Think I'll give those a bash...

You will not regret the Pilot Super Sports. I find them exceptional on mine, a real step up from P Zeros.

I ended up paying 265 each as well in a smaller size frown

Now that the snow's away, I've finally had a chance to have a good run with the new Pilot Super Sports fitted. Like night and day compared to the old tyres, even on damp roads they grip like crazy.

Very pleased :-)

my old man went from PS2s to pilot supersports on the E92 M3 and said they're absolutely fantastic tyres. not cheap, mind.
