ECU location

Hi all

Im trying to work out if my ECU was upgraded or not. Where is it located? I thought it was just above the battery? and is there a visual way to tell if it was done, ie label etc

Wrt to location it is above the battery but inside the wheel arch which you need to take off. You can get to it without removing the wheel but much easier access with it off.
If its been modified I believe there should be some visual mark but not entirely sure what it is sorry. Even when it's been remapped I think it's can be locked down again? Perhaps some one can clarify?
I plugged my laptop into my car and can see it was remapped by yellow shed in 2005 from the comments within the map but was then told that it doesn't necessarily mean I can map it myself.

I guess you mean you want to know if it has the MBE fitted? If you follow the wires where they come from the ecu and up to the engine there should be a factory MBE label on the wiring.

So was the MBE not standard after a certain year? I guess the big questions is whats involved in being able to map it yourself?

A lot of the GTO3's came with the moretti morelli (spelling?) but we're upgraded to the MBE. As far as mapping it yourself, I don't think it's advisable as you can corrupt the ecu if you don't have the noble software. This happened to my last car and it had to be fixed by yellowshed (Trevor Jasper).

I know from new it didnt have the later ecu as it was marked as an advisory on one of the mole valley service sheets as a recommended upgrade. However There is no record of ot being done. I suppose i could call mole valley, but i wanted to check first. Is there any issues if i continue it run it on the older ecu if it does have it?

I think the only down side of the old ecu is they break down and they can't be re mapped but I don't think there's anything else? Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. It's easy to spot if you have the MBE, check the loom as I said earlier or remove the cover in front of the rear wheel and take a look.

Don't think you need to worry as I'm sure only very early 2.5L had the MM Ecu thereafter all cars had the MBE fitted.

I've had two gto3's and both of them had paperwork saying they had an ecu upgrade when they were only a few years old. One was 02 plate the other was 03. I always thought this meant from mm to mbe?

So what's the opinion on a mappable ecu without yellowshed? I'm way way up north so as much as I'd like him to map my car it's just not financially feasible, so do I need to fit an aftermarket omex or something?
