Child seats in 911
Discussion
we have a 3y old and another on the way very soon. Have an X3 which does the daily duties.
would like to get a fun weekend car - ideally one the whole family car get in occasionally. i've done some searches and this topic
narrowed choice down to a 991S , Panamera S or an E92 M3 Coupe.
Of course the one i want is the 991S
Done some searches and theres quite a lot of posts on this topic, so lots of experience out there from fellow PHs trying to keep dream alive
Problem is they are all a little old and not much out there on the 991 with isofix. Has anyone successfully put 2 kids in the back - one in a rear facing?
Im 6', my wife is 5'4..please someone persuade me the 911 is possible!

Perhaps a visit to your local OPC with your car seats may be an option - if they fit, bingo
I've had my 6 year old and 2 year old in the back of a 997 with no problems on boosters (which only just fitted with a bit of a squeeze). Providing a rear facing seat physically fits I don't see a problem having a little one in the back.
That said, it can't be the most comfortable car to sit facing the rear window due to the seat rake.

thanks -- we did goto the dealer and try the porsche seat, which worked OK, but the problem is that one is not rear facing and only suitable from 9m up. the salesguy suggested a cayanne !

its surprisingly hard to search by rear facing seats by amount of room they use forward, most are concerned with width facing 3 across the back
Had a demo a few times - Rear facing seat is only really suitable in rear passenger side as the passenger doesnt mind being forward a bit - The driver however needs to be comfortable driving the car. I had my 3 year old behind me on a booster seat as the seatbelts fit snug over his chest which in my opinion is a safe option as long as the seatbelt doesnt drop too low or strangle him around the neck. We use a thing called a bubble seat which is simply a blow up booster seat. I am thinking of buying a 997 turbo for the family runs as I bought a new 981S in August but need something with 4 seats to save the wife driving the kids all of the time.
It's so hard to visualise the violence of even a medium impact - its unbelievable how small flexible bodies get thrown around....Really not worth taking a chance with he kids, more and more true the younger they are.
Get reasonable seats and use them properly. If you can't make them fit, use a different car.

I don't know about the group 1 baby seats but the latest generation of toddler (Group 3) child seats seem to be significantly less bulkier than they were 4 years ago. I think this might be down to improvements in plastics and design.
I just bought two Britax adventure seats for my Turbo and the seats weigh under 4KG each. They fit perfect and they look very similar to the official Porsche tequipment ones.
I doubt there would be enough room for a proper isofix group 1 baby seat back there though unless, your front passenger is below average height.

I am not sure if this was having a go at my comment - but the booster seat we use on family holidays abroad is suitable for my three year old and my five year old as they are within the weight category tested for the seat - it also has a supplementary seat belt attached to the seat so to make the car seat belt fit properley - if it didn't I would not use it + my mother in law used to fit these seats in a baby shop and do is very vigilant with safety and making sure we have the right seat choices. In my scenario I would put my 5 year old on the booster seat behind me - my 3 year old in his car seat behind the passenger seat and my 1 year old on the passenger seat in his rearward.

It wasn't having a go Lumpy, I worry that people try to find ways to make 911s work by bending the rules or by using their own judgment , lots of people think the back seats 'look' ok for a child. And you have to shop around for seats that sit well in the rear of a 911 due to the shape of the squab. We should all make these decisions based on 'what could happen', not 'how do we manage with the 911'.In my scenario I would put my 5 year old on the booster seat behind me - my 3 year old in his car seat behind the passenger seat and my 1 year old on the passenger seat in his rearward.
I assure you, not having a go and no offense intended.
No offence taken. It is within a parents judgement to make sure they are happy with the safety choices that they make. As I mentioned we always take the mother in law along to make an informed decision - I have tried all of the seats in the 991 and subject to the car having isofix and air bag off button the car is more than suitable in mine and my mother in laws opinion. All be it she always likes to save her money and I like to spend mine.
thanks for the hep everyone - this forum is such a wealth of info
after much research on this i found it is technically possible - with maxi-cosi pebble, with the wife a little squished upfront, but in reality my head tells me its likely to be something that we rarely do.
in the end have gone for an E92 M3, as a previous 997 Gt3 owner, i was yearning for another 911, but will have to wait a lil longer...

I wouldn't give up on a 991, from my limited experience of them they have a bit more room in the back than a 996 or 997, both of which will take a maxi cosi pebble or Cabriofix rear facing, leaving a few options for the 3yr old behind the driver.
It all depends on how much legroom the adults need.

I'm using a Maxi cosi cabriofix in the back on my 996 cab and it goes in no problem. Well - no problem if you count occasionally having to drop the roof to make it easier to do so - makes it a lot easier but it isn't essential.
It is a setup I have only used 3 times over very short distance and is not the sort of thing I would want to do regularly, just when there isn't any other option at the time apart from travelling using a taxi.
