Canon EOS 1100D vs Olympus E500 - expert opinions?

I currently have an Olympus E500 DSLR.

I've noticed that the Canon EOS 1100D seems to pick up some good reviews and is available at a good price at the moment.

Would this be any kind of an upgrade over the E500?

I realise that the E500 is an old camera, but it still seems to take satisfactory pictures - I'm just frustrated by the cost of lenses for it!!

1100d will cream the E500 in every meaningful way.

Plenty of EF/EF-S lenses around too.

My local camera shop which is a reputable Nikon and Canon dealer say they don't stock the 1100 as they have too many returned with problems.

This ^^^ is one of my concerns, as the Olympus feels to be a more robust camera, where the Canon doesn't.

I feel that the Olympus (despite it's age) is a more upmarket camera (and yes, I realise that the Canon is an entry level product - but then so was the E500 IIRC).

I think the Nikon D3100 or 3200 are superior entry level DSLRs compared to the 1100. Maybe worth a look? I just picked up a brand new D3100+ 17-55 kit lens for 290 notes: it takes some lovely pics!

Hmm, thought there seemed to be a paucity of them for sale in the adverts in AP......

PC World are doing a special on them with an additional lens and cash back.

This kind of deal always raises alarms for me, which is why I thought I would ask before buying.
