Driving home tonight the trusty S124 had a problem, first the ABS and SRS lights came on and the radio switched off. I continued driving for about 30 miles and the windscreen wiper operated very slowly. Then the car started missing before cutting out completely and grinding to a halt. The car wouldn't start as the battery was flat as a pancake although the hazard lights worked ok. Any ideas as what could be wrong? Alternator maybe? Any help would be greatly appreciated, has anyone suffered the same problem?
Regards Ed.

Ok just googled symptoms and it relates to OVP relay or voltage regulator. I'll have a look tomorrow.

I would have happily gone with the alternator myself - based on an identical experience in my 190e a few years back. But - I'm not technical - just relying on past experience.

If the OVP checks out ok, sounds like classic worn voltage regulator symptoms. Easy to check/replace and relatively cheap- they are fixed to the back of the alternator with 2 screws and just pull out. You'll be able see straight away if the brushes are worn.
