The lowest price for these cars ex-demo, is around £22,500.

Who thinks these may go sub £20k within a month and at what point do the PH massive go mad for one of these as a second hand bargain?

I don't see why they'd lose another 10% in a month.

I suspect many of us will buy them when they are as affordable as other great driver's cars - to me that's when they are circa £5k because until then I'd rather be in:

E36 M3
944 S2
944 Turbo
Supercharged MX5

etc all of which cost circa £5k so why pay more ?

Will be interesting to see the GT86 sales figures for the latter part of 2012. Based on initial DVLA registration figures, corroborated with the lack of them on the road, I expect them to be truly dire.

WHERE? That could be a clincher. My mum really wants one, but an SLK is a much cheaper deal.

I am sure of the same thing. Loads registered at the dealers but none on the roads.

Annoyingly despite knowing they are going to depreciate like a lead balloon, I need to buy one now, as nothing else is tickling my fancy

Our Toyota contact at work says they have a lot of stock laying around as sales have been disappointing. We've been offered more than 1 demo on a rolling basis just to get them out and about on the road.

Don't forget there's the Subaru BRZ. AT showing 20-odd starting at 23.5k. Could play Subaru dealers of Toyota ones to get better deal perhaps?

They arent selling as quick as perhaps we would wish (Toyota dealer here), we dont seem to have a good audience in our area, however our sister dealer 19 miles down the road seems to be doing rather well with them.

Most of the ones on Autotrader are ex-demo's, thats why there are so many of them out there. We all want new demo's, or TRD versions!!

I haven't spotted a Subaru yet but there's a handful of GT86's on the roads around here. Nice looking things.

Well having sniffed around my local dealer I think the problem , not surprisingly, is that the rest of the range is very much aimed at almost anti-enthusiast "white goods" buyers.
Toyota customers value reliable, cost effective, well made sensible vehicles and are a mile away from the ethos of the GT86. They care about CO2 and mpg a lot more than ajustability on opposite lock.

But I found the sales staff pleasant, enthusiastic and helpful.

Going to be tricky to get the footfall from the right customer base

Spot on, in one!! lol.

We have an ageing customer base, its hard to get the younger people through the doors, and we tend to get a lot of "Test Pilots" who have every intention of buying it, but we never see or hear from them again. Its amusing. Had the same when I used to sell Evos and Scoobies. Nightmare.

But those who are genuinely interested, havent been about the performance, more about the looks, or changing from Celica/MR2/MX5

What discount can I expect on a new one. Realistically? I won't hold you to it

To be fair to the test pilots I had one for an extended test drive & hated the thing. I simply spent my money elsewhere.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. In the last ten years or so they've really become a very bland brand - and in America they took massive PR hits over the acceleration defect fatalities.
The useless F1 team didn't really help the sporty side of things - maybe the growing popularity and success of the Le Mans/Sportscar project will translate into interest in the GT86.

I'm also correct in thinking the UK tv ad got pulled by ofcom as well?
