Hi Neil,
How did you get on, does anything happen when you unplug the top airflow meter?
Nothing really happened on mine when I removed it, engine was hot at the time I may perhaps try it again when cold.

Apologies for the delay, Kevin, but whenever I was at home over the past 3 days its been coming down in stair rods.
Anyway:
Engine cold, unplug top connector. Slight drop in revs & recovered close to normal tickover. Nothing more.
Replace top connector & unplug bottom connector. Very slight drop in revs (not as much as top connector) & recovered to normal tickover.
Thats's it. Nowt more to report, I'm afraid. Seems like mine is the same as yours.

It appears your top one is the same as mine and your bottom one used to be the same as on mine but mine didn't work, so this has been replaced with a new one and now it makes a big difference if I unplug it, the engine almost stops.
Chris (Wildfire) is kindly checking his for me too, so we will have a wider comparison.

Apart from being a bit lumpy when cold and suffering the occasional dip in revs at tickover, mine seems to run fairly smoothly.
More responsive and a smoother tickover and it used to rev high and take 10-12 secs to settle when coming to a stop at a junction which was really annoying!

As a comparison,unplugging the top makes little difference just a slight drop in revs then settles. Unplugging the bottom ones makes the car almost cut out.
Well, as for what I paid ...it was next to nothing as I was lucky enough to find a brand spanking new one (non-exchange unit) on e-bay for £11 including carriage!
An exchange/recon unit is approx £150 from ATP (BBA Reman). They are both the same top and bottom IIRC.
A shame I couldn't buy 2 at the same price!
At least I have a spare for refurb now and when I fit that and take the old one off I'll still have a spare to refurb. and therefore will always have a spare on the shelf in the garage.

Hmmm. Very occasionally, the tickover on mine will jump to and remain at about 1200-1300rpm. The only way I can seem to 'reset' this is by turning the engine off. Spin her up straightaway and the tickover reverts back to normal at about 750-800rpm.
I had assumed this was electrical rather than mechanical and it does it so infrequently that I am really not that bothered about it. Now I'm wondering if I have an iffy A/F meter. If they are the same, guess it could be worth swapping them around (if this is possible) and seeing what happens.
