Got an old (banger) car on ebay for a grand, it has a dozen watchers but it's a Buy it Now, why would you watch something when it's not an auction? Surely you would just call the seller?
thanks

Welcome to ebay lol

Number of watchers makes no difference ive found, Just wait till you get ebay snipers making a offer with 30 seconds to go without realising it only works with auctions.

'cause they're probably interested in other cars too, they've made a note of yours for their short-list for later... plus I think sometimes if a car doesn't sell first time 'round a seller will reduce it, and this'll show up on the watch list again.

I do this to keep it in a "bucket" to go back to. I then look for others to see if I can find a better deal. If I can't, I know where it is, it's in my "bucket". biggrin

Watch it for a while to see if it sells. If it doesn't sell, contact seller with a lower offer.

Is your car over-priced?

I put things on watch for many reasons... I have something the same i may sell, it may be a future purchase and i want to see what its lightly to cost me. Its quite interesting seeing what things sell for, or indeed if they sell at all. I put several 206s on watch a while back. No intention of buying just wanted to see if my wifes would be worth selling and to gauge a rough asking price.

its underpriced if anything but it's a bad time of year and it's a 2.0 petrol

Exactly what I do!

It's also easier to compare in the 'watching' list.

I just has 134 watchers for one item I just sold today. Only had 3 bids in the end. I do the same though, when browsing I click watch on all kinds of stuff then often never even look at them again.

Also if its very underpriced it can put people off. The classic question arrises "whats wrong with it"?

Many years back a mate sold a Sierra (yes years ago) from the road side with £495 in the window (very cheap at the time) but no takers. Changed it to £995 and it went for £800 a few days later.

Ive thought about it... Wifes 206 up for £1500 which is fair... why would I like to consider an offer of £750??????? WTF?

in all fairness if you said yes to they're offer they still wouldn't buy, lots of non paying bidders and there is very little recourse or punishment from Ebay

My wife watches stuff that she is thinking of selling, to get a feel for the eBay market on that particular item so she can then decide whether it's worth selling and to get an idea what to ask or expect for it.

As long as you put a suitable reserve price on the item you are selling, why would you be worried about low bids?

Some people do seem to get quite upset about the number of "watches" their items, and I simply don't understand why. If someone wants it they'll bid or contact you, until then forget about the number of watchers.
