V8 Vantage Roadster water retention

When I was out in the V8 Vantage Roadster today I started to drive away and forgot to turn on the radio, at the first bend I went round I could hear water "slushing" from side to side.
It sounded like it was from the dashboard / front bulkhead area, the car sits outside all of the time and it has been raining heavily here , I have not been using it recently,
so it sounds like water is being retained somewhere, I know where the rear drainage channels are, but are there any at the front that could be blocked perhaps.
That may explain why the Aston has been misting up really quickly after I park it up, I thought it was just the cold damp weather

Any thoughts on where the water is and how to clear it?

There is a small drainage hole on the passenger side on the black trim
I find this fills up with water

I had a water sound sloshing around my car, it took me ages to find out that it was the petrol tank , sound of petrol sloshing about. You could only hear it, when the car was really quiet (which is not often in my car). I eventually tracked it down and filled the tank up, but not just filled the tank up, I, "brimmed it", I don't think you are supposed to do that as the tank needs to have some air in it to work properly (I don't know why).

When the tank was truly brimmed, the sound went, I proper tested this theory and for me, in my car, it worked.

The rate my car goes through unleaded, it was easy to test quite quickly.

Per my email - it will be the doors or side sills. They always fill up with water due to blocked drainage holes and make the car sound like it's sloshing during braking and acceleration.

I had it on my last Vantage and it turned out to be the doors.

A follow up to my earlier post regarding water retention on my 2007 V8VR

I have checked the drainage holes on the doors (no signs of water retention) and removed a drainage plastic plug at the rear of the sills (no signs of water retention)
Checked the drains at the front engine compartment and rear of the car inside the boot and they were clear as well.

The water noise is still present, but is NOT noticeable when accelerating or braking, but IS noticeable when cornering (i.e. water running from side to side)
It definitely sounds as though it is coming from the dash and I think the noise is more pronounced when going round a right hand corner (ie water running to the left hand side)

Could the air conditioning system be retaining water?
On page 7.2 of the handbook it states "moisture which forms on the evaporator in the air conditioning unit is drained via a drain tube onto the road"

Any suggestions please?

Thanks for getting back to us all, its good for follow-up. Condensation from the AirCon is only that ... condensation, there is no where for it to drain to, because it's only water, it just drains and lands on the floor.

You never got back to me/us about the fuel tank noise. Did you try and fill the tank to the absolute limit and try for the noise again. I have read the manual and it seems that its not a good thing to, "brim", the tank. But I had the same type of noise, I really tried to find the noise and I eventually found it to be the fuel slopping about in the tank. Mine is a DB9, so not the same, but the design is so similar, its at least worth a shot .....

Thanks for the reminder Maverick.........I actually did not check out your idea as I got side tracked with the drains etc.
The neighbours must have thought I had flipped my lid when they saw me pouring water into the boot and engine compartment.
I will fill up the V8VR with "motion lotion" and test your idea.

OK. Don't forget to read the manual about filling the tank and over filling it. I brimmed it, it took a while as the bubbles had to go down. It worked for me ....

Following up from my previous post, still getting a water slushing from the dashboard area.
To be more specific ONLY when turning a right or left corner, NOT when accelerating OR braking.
Just noticed today the passenger footwell is slightly damp and signs of water at the bonnet opening lever and above it.
Please refer to attached photo (apologies since it is upside down)
What is the large white plastic housing immediately below the glove box.

A previous reply suggested fuel slushing about in the tank, but can discount this theory after brimming the fuel tank and the sound is still evident

Its the heater box. The 3 legged black bit is the fan blower motor. Maybe scuttle drains blocked - don't know exactly where they are - and water is building up under the bonnet then finding its way through heater box assembly. Not sure about Vantage but we see lots of problems with Audis amongst other - usually leaf mould/crap build up so the water doesn't drain away.

I may have bottomed out the cause of the water in my V8VR
The windscreen!
I suspect mine is leaking and causing water ingress
The AM dealer said
"If there is a trace of water at the bonnet release there is a chance the front screen is leaking
Check the chassis number observation panel on the screen passenger side. If there is condensation there it means there is a leaking screen".

Mine has condensation at the VIN observation panel and also noticed condensation at the two bottom corners of the screen.

AM also said £1,554 for a new screen

I'd price it up with one of the windscreen guys making sure they allow for the seal.
No one makes a "copy" one so they will only offer a genuine AM one.
The art is in sealing it properly with out it rubbing on the dash (as I found out )

If your windscreen should happen to develop a crack, it should be covered under your insurance with a minimal excess (£50ish), presuming that you've got fully comp insurance.

Hi, on the subject of water drains in the vantage doors. If the car is parked on the level or facing down hill the water drains no issues. However the drain holes do not extended to the rear of the door. Unfortunately my drive way Is steep and I reverse down to park. I don’t want burn out the clutch reverse out.
So after rain fall the door partially drains,to leave a reasonable amount of water in the door. This drains off when I open the doors. My question is. Does Anyone know if it would cause a water ingress issue if I had an additional hole drilled.

Update on my 2007 V8V door drain holes. The 2008 has them front to rear of the door. Mine only the first three at the doors leading end. Unless mine was a Friday car. So. I’ve drilled an additional hole. Job done. I’ve been meaning to for a while now. But only just received a confirmation photo of a 2008 from Scott (tech). At Aston service Dorset. I cannot recommend these people enough. Best thing that’s happened at our neck of the woods for Aston owners. Now with a new reception with Aston goodies. Diagnostics also done there.

I also have condensation in my VIN viewing window in the screen - I'll have to had a good grovel around in the passenger footwel to see if there's any dampness there.

I'm guessing there's a fair amount of electrics up there and many years with Italian cars has taught me that electrics prefer to be dry....
