MOT/tax question...
Discussion
Not too sure if I'm posting in the right place! I've just bought a car ad said MOT until september 2013, no tax. I got the car and the guy forgot to bring the most recent MOT slip and he's been working today but I really want to get the car on the road. It's all insured I've got the green slip to take to the post office (can't do it online yet with records changing) I've got insurance documents and green slip. Does anyone know if they can do it without the MOT paper? Thank you in advance.
Ah yeah, I think hes right and the divla can do it.
Post office definately says http://www.postoffice.co.uk/vehicle-tax

The barcode on the green slip will be scanned by the Post Office and this will tell them there is a valid MOT. And the insurance is checked, it's just as easy as doing online. You should be ok without the MOT bit of paper.
That is my view. Since the MOT went online some time ago the Police, DVLA and the Post Office can assess whether a car has a current MOT. Therefore you should be ok, I think providing the car is actually MOT'd.The days of paperwork ate leaving us. Good. Certainty by access to the source must be better.

Honestly I am a little worried that there may not be an MOT. Tried to check online but its not taking the document reference number on the green slip, although putting in previous MOT numbers come up with what's on the paper and HPI check came back clear. Regretting impulse buying lolThe days of paperwork ate leaving us. Good. Certainty by access to the source must be better.
I bought it on ebay so maybe if i've been misled then I can sort it through there. Maybe. Maybe it really has an MOT lol another question actually, I tried checking online with the document reference number but its saying it doesn't match would that be because its all been sent off? And if I do have to go to a test centre will they be able to find the mot without it? Its my first car so I haven't got a clue

yeah fingers crossed for you, does sound a bit suspicious though. What do the previous MOTs show on the computer, same test centres and a few advisories on the past few?
Most recent one i have is from may 2011. It has quite a few advisories but passed. One on that that's definitely been fixed is damage to windscreen there's definitely none there now. shock absorbers, brake pads, noisy exhaust, brake discs. Actually that is a retest so it had failed and then things were fixed still with advisories. All matches up on the computer but I can only see the ones I have the mot test number for.mamanat said:

Not sure if you are right there - when I put any of my MoTs in to the web site it brings up the whole history including the most recent MoT, so it sounds to me like there is no more recent MoT.Your earlier post left me with the same impression - experience tells me that if a seller has "forgotten" something then you need to assume the worst.
