Astonishing year for him. Does seem a bit odd though to be a knight at such a young age. I guess Chris Hoy was the same.

I think it's brilliant, well done to both of them.

I'm utterly amazed Andy Murray got the lowest of the low award for a gold medal and a major title though.

Some of the anti-cycling posts are funny. Obviously not fans of cycling and feel "their" sportsmen - Rooney has been quoted ffs! - more deserving. I cant imagine the effort the whole of Team Sky put in to achieve the results they got this year and IMO well deserved.

Are you seriously suggesting there should not be a thread in the pedal power forum? I think it's safe for Wiggo's knighthood to be discussed in both pedal power and NPE.

I have been wondering how the criteria is used to select individuals for each grade of award. I can only think that Murray has been selected on:

- a distinguished country-wide role in any field

Whereas Bradley has been granted the KBE based on:

- in a capacity which will be recognised by peer groups as inspirational and significant nationally


Bearing in mind that what Bradley did was the cycling equivalent of England winning the World Cup for the first time ever, I think his achievement in more inspirational on a national level.

Not sure why the track athletes got CBEs and Andy Murray an OBE though.

What a fantastic achievement and recognition.

I still struggle to believe how far cycling has come in the last 20 years .

I remember the excitement of Yates and Boardman getting a turn at the yellow jersey , that was just unbelievable at the time.

Not saying that at all, but it would have been nice to consolidate and keep comments together.
Too often the differnet there are identical threads knocking about in different sections concernign the exact same topic. Oh well, such is life post P&P.

What is actually happening in both threads:

Here: pretty positive, discussing the achievements/sport

NPE: quite a bit of bickering, not discussing the actual cycling aspect at all.

Very different threads.

Try cycling a regular route one handed and see how that effects your time and muscle groups.

As a track cyclist, starting is bloody hard. Climbing (as above) will also be affected.

Nice flat time trail and I reckon she can compete at the highest level against anyone.

All fair points I suppose, although what I mean is that it's not a significant impairment compared to, for instance, someone like Jody "Effing" Cundy who's missing a foot?
