Wind caught my boot lid, after I'd popped it, and have broken the fixing which the boot strut screws onto on the on the boot lid.

Can someone post a pic of the boot strut connection to the boot lid please smile

I've at the moment fixed it witha few washers and a nut, but not convinced on the spacing of it.

Cheers

The fixing you are missing was a rivnut.
You need a special tool to fix these though.

I had mine fall apart when i took the strut off.
Now dont laugh, but to get the fixing tight and the spacing correct I cut a nut in half and fitted one half each side of the bracket. It works a treat.

I took a photo this afternoon for you. I'll post it in a bit.

Thank very much to both of you... Ian thanks for the solution as well.

At present it's held one side with nut, and other side spaced with washers... but I think the nut is catching on something due to it's size....... wonder if I can can get thinner nuts ??

Edit to add..... now looked into Rivnuts (didn't know they existed and thaught I had broken the bracket), I'll pop down local garage and see if they have a tool to do it, if not I'll buy a cheapy one (it's got to be easier then trying to cut a nut in half as I don't have a workshop)

Yep, it's the nut catching. That's why I cut one in half.
If you have a vice and a hacksaw it's easier than you might think.

Put the nut in the vice to half it's depth so you can see down through the threaded hole.
Then cut across the top of the vice at a slight downward angle. Your saw will skim over the vice and keep the cut straight.
Clean up the two halves with a fine file and bobs your uncle.

Hi there, do not bother with a rivnut, take it from me from working in the specialist automotive industry, unless you have the actual air driven rivnut gun you will not be able to satisfactorily fit the nut. When I fitted the gas strut in my boot (car came without strut because rivnut was missing) I made a nice aluminium standoff out of 20 x 30 angle, using the hinge fixings to mount it. This looks very nice and can be polished up, and straightens the angle the strut moves through. I will try and take some pictures over the next couple of days. I have some spare angle which you can have a piece if you decide to go down this path. All the best, Pete

Hoover. I have just taken the boot hinges and struts off my boot. If you can't fix it let me know as I have them spare. I'm in bucks. Cheers. Jes
