I need to tax my Astra GTE to use on the 1st Jan but the car is 40 miles away and the MOT cert is in the car. I have All the other documents here with me (its sorned at the moment). my question is will the Post Office need the MOT cert or do they check 'on line' that the car has one?

Cheers in advance

Just buy online. It's a lot easier and you get 5 days from purchase date in which to display the tax disc. If you went online on New Year's Eve and bought the tax, you'd have until Jan 5th to display the tax disc.

If it is sorn at present and you tax online, I don't think you can start the tax ahead of time so the new tax will start from 1 December instead of 1 Jan.

If the government/civil service wallahs could come up with a more user-unfriendly system, I'm sure they would.

I went to the local VLO yesterday and they were on strike! Thanks guys - you are protesting about job losses but your jobs are protected by the sheer number of things we need to visit you to do - striking like this surely strengthens the argument to allow us to do everything at the PO or online, then we won't need you at all?

If you can't get to the post office, then tax online first thing on 1st Jan and use the car. Print the acknowledgement.

Worst that can then happen is that you would get fined for not displaying if caught.
