Dozens of colleagues have been applying to HMRC for a tax rebate(and getting it)for meals taken away from there place of employment. In 34years in the rail industry this is something I've never heard of,so as a train driver who's depot is in Manchester, about half my breaks are taken in other locations on company premises ,what are the rules regarding this.

I work on the railway and have to cover the LNE from Newcastle to Kings Cross, if I am away from my home station I can claim £5 a day for food but I very rarely do as I have a pack up regardless of where I am.

I would expect that the unions negotiated a Flat Rate Expense Claim amount for susbsistence a while ago.

Check with your Union Rep or with HMRC to see if such a standard claim exists.
