Guys,

this is where im at. ill be doing circa 25k miles per year and i have a budget of £10k. fuel is not an issue. i am essentially looking for a high performance car that would be capable of me putting that many miles on it without too many issues outside of the consumables.

i really need a 4/5 door car (family) but could consider a coupe that is decent on space.

i have shortlisted the below for further investigation:-

Audi RS6 (potential borkicide)
BMW M5 (e39)
X5 E53 4.8IS

which of the 3 would you recommend for this and any other recommendations?

many, many thanks.

At 10K for an RS6/M5 doing 25k miles could be a little ambitious.

Personally something like an S6/S4 would be a good bet. N/A V8, a decent indie wont have too much trouble with it but you'l still have a nice drive and 300+ bhp

You could get a 5/6 year old 335i saloon for that sort of money.

I wouldn't want to run an ageing German barge, such as the M5, for 25k a year. It's a great car, but no.

How about something simple like a Monaro VXR 6.0? Yes it's a coupe, but it's big enough.

Or a Jag XJR 4.2?

Definately won't be an s4, I find them very ugly.

And I'm coming from a 335i highline m sport, so I would like to try something a little different.

Thanks for the ideas so far.

CL 600 twin turbo fits the bill perfectly, but then I'm biased!

For those miles I'd want something Japanese I think. German would be nice but more costly.

I dare say service costs would make an eye water or two....
Always the risk, was a 100k car new so expect those costs second hand also!

You're a braver man than I if you do this! I expect it's tantamount to financial suicide.

EDIT: Epic car though! smokin

Golf R32. I might be a little biased but I genuinely can't fault mine. Maybe not a "high performance" but certainly quick enough and very comfortable.

Might be worth a look anyway.

Going from a 335i I think the OP would find an R32 a bit lacking in performance, especially the low down hit from the turbo 6 he has now.

To those saying 'no way' to an e39 M5, mine has done 7k miles in the last ~8 months and hasn't missed a beat mechanically and that is on a car that had done 160k miles to start with. They are great cars as long as fuel isn't an issue. Servicing will be quite often at those kind of miles but shouldn't be ruinous.

The monaro suggestion is a good one too!

Hmm, the x5 is a car I really like the look of, it's ideal for the family too, so not completely selfish purchase.
