We seem to have a wide range of photographers here on PH, both in ability and choice of subject,. How would you rate your own ability?

I get some complimentary remarks from friends who have seen some of my work, but that is a very small percentage of shots that I take.
I would consider myself “competent”. I'm happy that I know technically what I'm doing. I'm reasonably happy with my kit (although how many of us would like more/better equipment) and once in a while I get a shot that I consider as above average (average for my run of the mill stuff that is)

My main downfall I feel is the “artistic” side of the subject. I've been taking photos for many years now but my percentage of acceptable images seems to be a constant. Has anyone taken steps to improve this side of their work, be it organised courses/ tutorials etc.- and how did they find them.

Or should I accept that I am just not artistically inclined and carry on picking up the breadcrumbs from what I already produce?

One idea to reduce the ratio of misses - not that it matters really with digital - is to look through the viewfinder carefully and think 'Is this any good?' If not, find something better.

Also try to decide if you're trying to please yourself or your friends.
