Recieved my copy of the bible from WH Smiths the other day and mixed with some great weather and spotting a few other S's out and about have a renewed enthusiasm to modify my S. Sat reading it on the toilet till my legs were numb!
My questions are, has anyone made or fitted a tuscan racer type lens cover to their s headlights? Have no idea if its possible but think it would look pretty neat?
Also the bible goes on about fitting seatbelt harneses with a roll cage or welding in a bar but, shows a picture where the top harness is connected to the old seatbelt loop. Does this work and where can you get these harness?

Hi Mate,

You want to be careful, too much reading on the throne can give you piles!

Your question about the Tuscan racer fairings is one that I'm interested in too, I reckon it's possible but would like someone else to give it a try first!

I've modded my car a bit and I think the chrome rings are now out of character.

Sorry, not sure about the seat harnesses but no doubt someone can help you soon with this question.

Cheers,
K

Fair one but the cold leather seats cant help that much either, reacon a repeat prescription of anusol should be a worthy addition when working out servicing costs?
Think the lense covers would be quite straight forward to do. I would love to get some modern looking wheels instead of the multi spoked OZs i have but am put of by the shiny rings round the lights. They dont half make the front look dated?

Perhaps a smear of gasket sealant or fire weld for the piles!

I'm not sure how the covers would fix to the body which is why I have been waiting for someone to have a go at it first.

I opted for some wolfrace cam 295 alloys in 17" for a more modern look, also audi TT mirrors and I have used a set of lightly tinited rear lights and modified those to a red tint on the stop tail sections giving a dark overall look. Click on my profile and you'll see the mods.

Might be worth getting the rims colour coded to match the bodywork..... Cheaper too

I tried this but IMHO it didn't look right as the chrome trim around the headlight lens still stuck out past the the newly painted ring.

Fairings are the way to go, also reduce the drag a bit at higher speeds!

oooh! now your getting my taste buds going. Was it easy to fit the TT mirrors, it has to be said that my biggest nause when driving my S1 is the mirrors!
The wheels look good too.

I'd be a liar if I said it was easy!
It took about an hour and a half per side and still isn't perfect (for me anyway).

It involved a lot of grinding to get the audi mounts to fit the door profile to sit the mirror at the correct angle and I had to grind the old mountings off too (damaging the paint work a bit but having a respray anyway). I then had to use the door as a sanding block on the mirror base covers to get the correct profile but this is the part that I'm not so happy with as the fit could be better but I should be able to sort this with a bit more time spent on them.

I also have a US spec Jag XJS high level brake light fitted and I've smoked the front indicators and fitted flush triple LED side repeaters in each wing.

Oh yes, inside I've changed the gear knob and handbrake and steering wheel to brushed alloy finish.

Thinks that's about it.

Oh and blue rockers cover to match some silicone hoses which I have yet to buy and fit.

dont know if you noticed the pic in Claire's profile showing the front of the car. I prefered it without the rings but Claire insisted they went back on.

The cover issue has been a long standing one. Nobody has had a go at it yet. I was going to along with Podie, but funds and time are just against me.

For colour coding the rings, you could paint the rings then remove the chrome trim and paint that as well. Not very difficult.

I noticed that Phil, perhaps looks a bit eeer functional without them!

I fitted some new chrome ones after removing my painted ones and on one of my first journeys out after if flew off ....bloody potholes!

I felt a bit daft collecting parts of my car from back down the road in the middle of town in lunch hour traffic

Mine appear to be bonded on Chris and I wasn't in the mood to remove the whole assembly and mask them up etc. I think the flush covers will look nice.

Weren't the ones you had just the trims and not the fairings? Like on the Chim?

They're trims… I spoke to a couple of people locally about making up some copies and some fairings, and they seemed interested initially… but one by one they dropped out…

KentishS2 asked me about them when it was first known that I was selling the S, so he has first refusal if he wants them.

Hi Podie,

Just to clarify, are they Chim style trims? Or, Griff style, what I call fairings?

I'd be interested in either really, surely better than the chrome rings. Are they a fairly straight fit or will they require work to make fit?

Cheers,
K

The times I have done that, it is my regular toilet time read, every time I emerge from the smallest room I have lost all movement in my legs.

Stear clear of the place, it's the only way to save money, you will just have to learn to clench!
