You may have seen my other thread relating to my Marantz NA7004. Well, my WD My Book Live 2Tb NAS arrived yesterday - gave up with the feedback on Amazon as comments fluctuate widely. Mine seems to be doing everything it should be so far although I haven't run the WD software, just what Windows 7 loaded in automatically. My only problem relates to the very reason I bought it - Lossless (WAV) files. It copies them fine, and they appear in the proper album folders within the drive. However, when I play them through WMP or through the Marantz they all get categoriesed as "Unknown" and are grouped together. The sound quality is amazing but the files are just all over the place. This doesn't happen with other WMA/MP3 files, but then the quality is lost. Also, when running the "C" drive through WMP it picks up the WAV files in the correct locations fine.

Not sure if this is a hifi or computer thread but I'll see where this goes...

Could it be something to do with wav files not supporting tagging? Few people use wav for media streaming so you might want to look into either .flac or Apple Lossless, both of which are lossless, compressed (about half the size of the .wav file, which is handy when backing up) and support tagging.

Thanks Mike,

I've sort of fixed it. I went into "Folder" view rather than "Artist/Album" and the WAV files were all in the correct artist/album folders - also, the WAV files were in track order, wheras all the MP3/WMA files were just alphabetical. I'll have to have a bit more experimenting with recording formats.

Had problems getting Autoflac to run though (see my other thread), unless I use EAC but it takes 40 mins each CD to rip! I don't have any Apple gear so don't bother with iTunes.

Cheers.

I used EAC for ripping and it took about 20-30 minutes per CD. You can reduce this in the settings but it never really bothered me as I was doing other things on the PC during the month or so it took to rip my full collection! It's just a compromise between speed and accuracy.

Anyway, glad you got it sorted.
