997.1 Turbo, 997.2 C4S or AMV8? Will be my only car and hence have to deal with going to Tesco and crawling around London as well as the odd blast oop north and occasional track day. I'm suspecting that rules out the AM, but I do love the look/ sound. Currently have a 996 C4S. Views (especially from those who've actually driven the cars in question!!) requested. Thanks in advance.
If it were my money (i haven't driven any of those mentioned), it would go into a turbo.
I know what you mean about the AM V8, but I also have a niggling feeling the thing would break down all the time. I also find the interior quite poor and i'm sick of the way aston is doing things at the moment.

Driven all 3 also came from 996 C4S. I also use mine for all purposes on a daily basis.
AMV8- didnt feel faster and prehaps not as good to drive, makes ok sound with fuse pulled out, really comes down if the AM badge attracts you.
7t.1 - Everything generally good apart from sound and prehaps engine response. If you're used to PSE on 6C4S then you will miss it. Can be resolved with sports exhaust but then no P warranty. Also when I was looking no good tiptronics under £50k.
C4S PDK - With Sports Chrono(must have)and PSE real good fun, responsive engine, PDK makes it feel like a computer game, maybe needs more torque imo. Also will be fresher car.
I wanted a 997 turbo but couldn't find one in the price range which was a nice example so settled 997.1 C4S which was in outstanding condition, added PSE and for the most part am happy, the handling is a big step from the 996 C4S, however probably will be changing for something more powerful in New Year;) Good Luck

What happened Johnny boy?
996.... Most expensive car ever, in three years had 2xRmS, 2x oxygen sensors, new battery, plus consumables, clutch, tyres, discs, pads, etc etc, had to put on a PSE to make it sound like a sports car, £2000. This car bought from Tonbridge OPC. Paid 55k at 20,000 miles, px'ed three years later for 20k, bores scored and burning oil, at 50,000 miles.Boxster lunched its engine at 65,000 miles, IMS Failure., before that, rusted brake pipes, replaced, rust on sills at leading edges, same servicing costs as 996, had good fun doing a few track days though, smoked like a volcano on start up, so did 996!
Have had the Aston for three years now, several track days, thrash the life out of it on Sundays, superb car, make no mistake, and before you lot say its slower than a 911....so what, grow up.
No offence intended here John, but you should have learnt your lesson after the 996 engine. To go and buy a Boxster if you don't like that sort of spending maybe wasn't the best option for you.
Much as I love Porsches, I could never own a Boxster or 996 (carrera) for exactly those things that happened to you, although the brakes, tyres and exhaust mods just sound like normal car ownership to me.

The Aston all day long. far more reliable, better built and not a kraut motor, don't forget the war!
Porcshes are a very disappointing car after a week or so.
Not one of your best anti-Porsche posts of recent times John. Not really a factual account and a shocking spelling mistake let it down badly. I think that one only deserves a 6/10. Must try harder next time. Porcshes are a very disappointing car after a week or so.
