issue 227. one of their long term cars is a CR with a newly fitted capristo exhaust . Kit contains manifolds, 200 cell cats as well as 3 different loudness modes. It's a costly 4,500 quid but apparently worth 25 HP as a bolt on to the CR. But they had to re-map the car to gain the HP. Thoughts?

£4500 for the exhaust plus circa £500 for the remap to me equals a hell of a lot of money for a 25 bhp gain.

I'll reserve judgement till i've heard it but that does seem costly. Any videos?

Seems well made and very complex, I guess that explains the price!

Jesus that is expensive for 25 bhp, hold on a minute, how much was x51 for the same 25bhp? wink

Don't like the sound of that brand at all. Always to loud hi pitched raspy fart sound.

The power on these cars comes from deleting 2 or all 4 of the cats and a remap to stop the cell light coming on.

Best sounding on these cars imo is the Tubi.

If you want 350bhp and a 1 stop full kit check out cargraphic power upgrades.

Cargraphic also have a flap system if you don't want full loud mode 100%

I am buying a new exhaust, but not decided between, Tubi, remus Ti, AWE or Cargrapic yet.

If you just what the best sound and a small gain in power, fit the tubi rear section and a softronic remap.

If you what 350bhp you will need the swap out the manifolds and plenum/ throttle body.

Hope that helps.

nah... i am happy with the standard setup... the most I would ever do is carnewal to remove the secondary cats after the O2 sensor...

It does seem like a lot of time/effort and money.

question is why shouldn't the first mod be the suspension arms (ie RSS LCAs?) to get more front negative camber?

I'd prefer a bit more torque than more bhp.

1st mod is subjective,;-), a lot of people will never go on track, but want the car to sound nicer.
The Tubi does sound great on this car imo as far as one can tell from you tube vids etc.

I will also be fitting the RSS lca for a bit more neg camber as my car will go on track and has been already.

^ This. €400 and about an hour it took him to fit it. Sounds lovely.

As for BHP gains, if you want to go faster, get a faster car. A few extra bhp on a NA car isn't going to make much difference that you wont get used to pretty much instantly anyway. Leaving you wanting yet more power... It's a vicious circle, one that leaves you spending vast amounts that you'll never ever recoup and will have a detrimental effect on resale.

More sensibly, leave it alone (or stick the Carnewal on) and spend the rest on driver training. £4500 buys an awful lot of track days and tuition.

But it's the fastest car in the Boxster range you cannot buy faster if you want this type of car.

I aways say to 2.7 owners don't tune buy the next model up.

But you will notice a 8% gain and it's fun tuning.

Not significant though. On all counts. You ain't getting a reasonable weight reduction without investing heavily and stripping it out properly. I can understand trimming a few kg here and there from a car in the featherweight class. But the Spyder and CR very much aren't there and you're not getting them to even 1000kgs without turning them into a pure race car. You'd honestly be better going on a diet than shaving odd kgs from it.

Power-wise sticking NA, you've got to be better dropping the 3.8 lump in. That'll be a decent 80hp jump. Personally I don't like the idea of retro-fit turbo's, but that's another way. Both options are going to be double the budget and then some and you're back looking at other cars again that have the grunt in the first place.
