Looking for a good re-chroming firm

Hi, I'm looking to have some re-chroming done for a 38 chrysler convertable coupe, local firms to me are not up to the job, obviously I've done the google search, but I'm looking for recommendations.

I've used two - Niphos in Crewe, and Nuneaton Fine Finishing in, er, Nuneaton. Both did a good job with the chrome still being good now after the jobs were done in 1997. NFF did my wheel nuts, and my only criticism is that when they were deburring them, they managed to get them so that they're not 3/4", not 18mm, not quite anything so I have to use a six-sided socket packed with insulation tape to tighten them up.

I understand London Chroming Company is the place, but not at all cheap.

A couple of years ago I used Castle Chrome in Dudley and was pleased with the result...and the price. Before taking the parts to them I did a lot of homework. My shortlist became Castle Chrome, Silvabronz and Derby Plating. Silvabronz came highly recommended but seemed expensive, whilst Derby Plating have a good reputation but didn't seem very interested in my business, so I lost interest in them! Both quoted considerably more than Castle Chrome for a mixture of plating and stainless steel polishing (which some companies will not take on).

I believe someone on here was having some Maserati parts rechromed by Castle Chrome and was finding them difficult to contact. Just thought I should add this, although I didn't experience any problems and found them really helpful.

I use Albion Plating near Horsham, not near to you, but I've been pleased with the results.

Derby Plating,excellent quality, but a little pricey. You get what you pay for I suppose, over the eight years I have dealt with them never a problem

Another vote for Derby Plating (had lots of stuff done there over the years) but as said, they're not cheap.

Thirded - they have just redone my Frogeye grille which had been Chrome "Splattered" by a previous company and they have done a great job to rechrome it - good price too!

Not sure if they're still as bad as this but when my dad had Nuneaton Fine Finishing do a lot of work 20 years ago, they managed to completely twist a window frame from a Jensen CV-8, so much so it had to have a new one made, and lost a door handle and a few other bits from a very rare Lammas Graham.
Always take a photo of all of the parts you're sending off to a chrome platers if you're sending lots of bits, makes life a lot easier when theres a argument for the missing part later on.

Interesting - they took photos of the wheelnuts I'd sent them as a "before" shot and sent them back when plated, I wonder if that was a conscious effort to improve based on your experience.

I used Derby plating for my Aston. I spent hours and hours looking for the best company, time and time again their name kept coming up.

Hi,
I used Best Electroplating in Crawly to re-chrome an Austin 7 Rad cowling that had been stripped to the bronze shell by time! They made a really nice job of it, and whilst not near you will happily do bits by post. Also were not expensive and had a realistic turn around time.

Thanks for all the response & advice, think I'm gonna take a trip to derby plating to get a quote, I'll take a chair so as I can sit down when they give me the price'.
