PCM phone / SIM card

Hi,
Does anyone know why the PCM phone only works with certain SIM cards. I've just changed to BT the SIM works fine in the phone but not in the car. The car is able to read the card, it transfers the phone book etc... But the calls blocked symbol comes up i.e. crossed out handset. I've tried in a few locations so it's not signal and my old O2 SIM still works fine. It's like it's network blocked or something. Is there anything I can do about getting it unblocked / working? Anyone else have this problem?

I'm just about to answer my own question (just in case anyone might be interested in the answer). The built in phone only works on 900Ghz frequency (voda, O2). The other UK network operators use 1800Ghz inc BT. This is not usually an issue as most phones are dual or tri band but PCM is single band.

I literally just called Vodaphone services - charge of £5, arrived via post! (That was about Jan this year).

What does this do? Is this the code to register a new SIM card in your PCM?
Not as such, all it does is tells the network to route the calls to that sim card until it recieves the same instruction from another device which will then become the active device.

thanks for the mail, can't say I did anything special with the BT sim card simply took it out of a pay as you go phone we didn't use any more & popped it into the PCM1 unit & it worked ok.
I just tried taking it out of the PCM & putting it back in again & intially it also had the call barred sign until I tried to do a manual dial & all was ok again, try it on yours. It is definitely a BT sim, I double checked it!
I can only suggest(probably incorrectly) that....
1/ The sim isn't seated properly & needs some adjustment..have a fiddle.
2/ Or something silly like you don't have any credit (or it has timed out) on the sim, stupid idea but possible.

There are a few things going on here. One is to understand which network the 'BT' card is on. BT used to mean BT Cellnet, which is now O2, but when O2 floated off BT started selling O2 airtime and then moved to T-Mobile (they've just announced a Voda deal too). So this affects the frequency:
O2 - 900MHz (with some 1800MHz)
Vodafone - 900MHz (with some 1800MHz)
Orange - 1800MHz only
T-Mobile - 1800MHz only.
So if the car phone is only 900MHz that means O2 or Vodafone.
There is also an issue with old SIMs in new phones. In a bid to save power the voltages phones use has dropped from 5v to 3v. Old 5v SIMs won't work in some newer phones (although a lot support both).
I'd get a Vodafone (or O2) pre-pay for the car and set a divert from your handset:
Call Divert (all call types)

Delay nn seconds: max is generally 30 seconds

Haven't researched it, but couldn't you buy a cheap pay-as-you go phone + sim, remove sim, place it permanently in your PCM slot and set your main phone to divert if switched off. Then switch off your phone when driving. i guess you would receive any calls as normal.
