Do 1p and 2p coins continue to have any purposeful value in our economy? Or is it time to make our teeny tiny 5p the smallest denomination?

Didn't the Americans work out that although it costs more than 1 cent to produce it, the cost of minting all the extra 5 cent coins was even more expensive?

I like cash, and the freedom from oversight it gives me, be that the taxman, Tesco tracking me, or the missus.

Interesting, I have never thought about this. It will definitely happen within the next 200 years I'd imagine. Kinda blows my mind a bit!

They've got rid of them in Australia. When I was there they'd round it down to $20 and $20.03 would be rounded up. It probably evens out over time anyway.

The shops changed their pricing to $x.95 rather than $x.99 too.

Went to pick up a Chinese in a village with no cash point and they didn't take card. Was shocked. Smartphones will kill cash, virtual wallets, NFC and apps like pingit make it completely redundant.

Retailers like them - forces the till to be opened. Round £20 could go in the pocket and not in the till....

Aussies worked out it was something like 21c to mint and ship them. With the price of metal they may end up disappearing !

Wonder if people still have lots of them and they are worth more in weight than value.

It has become much more difficult now with 1p buying a significantly less amount of fuel.

Soon only true alpha males will be able to end on a round figure.

Darwinian evolution at its purest.

Trivial amounts of money, of course we should lose them. The farthing (quarter penny) was withdrawn in 1869, its current value would be about 3p.

Definatley keep cash, or we will be completely state controlled. All we have over the government is the money in our pockets lol. As for change, that's what I give to the wife. Anything less than a pound and it's hers. Keeps her happy and I don't have pockets full of it or need some ridiculous man purse for it all.
