Lets assume it's not hiding any nasty surprise's, a big assumption I know, then what a car for the money.
At this rate 911 ownership is within my grasp !

An auto with a poo-coloured interior ? No thanks.
It does appear that decent colour / spec 996s are clinging on to the £10k price point and it's only the less desirable ones that are dropping under.
That combination may be less desirable to you, but not to everyone. It would be very boring if we all chose our cars with funeral black interiors. It does appear that decent colour / spec 996s are clinging on to the £10k price point and it's only the less desirable ones that are dropping under.
You may not like those particular options, but the point is that apparently good cars can be had for relatively low prices.
I really want a 911 - at these prices, as long as the car is manual and in decent nick, I'm not going to be that fussy as kiddy drained finances don't allow me to be!
Obviously I need to be realistic about being able to afford the running costs, and there are some risks involved, but if I can save a couple of grand towards the war fund because the interior is a dodgy colour, then I can live with it.

As has been said, colour is subjective. At least it not pink !!It does appear that decent colour / spec 996s are clinging on to the £10k price point and it's only the less desirable ones that are dropping under.
As for the Tip, well a long term left knee injury means manuals are not an option for me (well not on a daily driver anyway)
Its mainly about sales numbers with far more 996's made than any previous gen. It was that or Porsche going under so I for one can live with the change. Also being very similar to the boxster has had a knock on effect on their values. Is a 98 911 better than an 04 Boxster - some will think yes and some know but you'll be missing out by not considering the merits of both. I recently had this dilemma and went for the boxster after seeing a fair few circa 10k 911's that were tired and/or in need of refreshment in the suspension department. In short it was an immaculate boxster that one me over.

With regards to value OP, I was pipped to a beautiful (in my opinion, but others seem to hate it now despite it being the 993TT colour of choice) Arena Red 996 manual car earlier this year. Similar price...
Have had my 996 C2 Cab since 99. Engine popped at 18k ish and got complete rebuild by Porsche. Since then I have had all the major work done by a specialist - IMS bearing, RMS, Water pump, Clutch etc as well as any minor issues.
It has never been tracked, has an impeccable service record and for quite a while was serviced every 6 - 8k (until I started racking up a lot more miles, it now has 104k on the clock).
It also a tracker with a lifetime sub (not sure if this carries between owners mind) for which I have the certificate etc.
Anyway point of my post is that if I was going to sell it, it would be for sub 9k which in my eyes is a complete bargain and it hasn't been ragged around a track despite its age.

You thinking of selling then? It has never been tracked, has an impeccable service record and for quite a while was serviced every 6 - 8k (until I started racking up a lot more miles, it now has 104k on the clock).

My brother bought a 1998 996 Carrera 2 manual in silver just before Christmas. It's a bit leggy at 115k and looks a lot more tired than my 04 Boxster, but its a hell of a lot of car for the money. He paid £7.5k
Some may say a silver 911 with black interior (actually I think it's dark blue but looks almost black) is a bit boring, but I think it has aged really well. As I said, it's a bit ragged around the edges, but there is an honesty to the design in this colour combo and it really does have some good character.
Still love my Box though

Won't be selling mine, there is nothing out there that ticks as many boxes without a major price hike.
Much underrated car, would note that Evo did a back to back with similar priced 90s cars (incl a TVR) and the theatre of the TVR aside it was the Porsche that stood out.
It is also a bit chalk and cheese to see the 996 turbo as an upgrade, natural aspiration has a charm all of its own.
