Tunnel Runs in the news...
Discussion
I know this was mentioned previously but just saw an item on the BBC news. Some east London MP is claiming his constituents are complaining. Usual stuff involving words like "modified", "racing", "antisocial", etc.
The only ones I have been on have been well organised and marshalled, involved sensible driving, and have seen/heard NOTHING but smiling faces/cheers/thumbs up from passers by.
Of course I am sure there are ones organised by other forums that may not be as well behaved, but does that require a knee jerk reaction? The police representative seemed to be quite sensible - "monitoring", "not witnessed any bad behaviour), etc.
Let's not forget the charity side of things either.
Does this MP really have nothing better to worry about? Th story was preceded by one about a murder in Southwark yesterday, and followed by a story about another murder in Wapping

Just saw this, seemed like the MP was pissed off because the "racers" were being far too sensible for the police to actually do anything about it.
Exactly this, keep within the speed limits and what exactly can they do ?I have arranged a few TR's over the last few years, I have even emailed Poplar Police Station to advise there would be a large amount of cars at Westferry, surprisingly over the years I never had one reply neither did we get escorted out of any tunnels by BIB.
Enjoy the tunnels, we pay our dues, so lets use the tunnels.

Totally agree - apart from anything else, the limehouse link has a 30 limit and loads of cameras so even if people wanted to speed it'd be almost impossible. I'd actually really like to attend one of these events, especially as they're very local to me, but after getting a s.59 for accelerating hard out of a deserted carpark (reached a terrifying 20MPH!) I can't run the risk of getting a second one, which would result in my car being impounded.I have arranged a few TR's over the last few years, I have even emailed Poplar Police Station to advise there would be a large amount of cars at Westferry, surprisingly over the years I never had one reply neither did we get escorted out of any tunnels by BIB.

The Hindhead tunnel is great if anyone is ever down that way. There are also handy lay-bys at each end so you can stop and wait for your average speed to go down when you get to the far end.
cameras are before the laybys unfortunately.
You need another car to keep time with as such.
Enter together at 70mph one car keeps a constant 70 the other hoons
as long as the hooning car rejoins the constant car before the end of the tunnel you will be fine.
Only been on one tunnel run and the Police were tossers quite frankly. One police car kept putting blues on through every tunnel, forcing cars up onto the kerbs. Another started chasing down cars and confiscating the tunnel run maps from everyone!
This was on a properly organised event with the 'support' of the local authorities.

ks there are many speed detectors and cameras all through the tunnel, they can track the speed of individual cars etc, there is a control room that is manned 24/7, there are alarms that go off in the control room if a lot of cars changing speed is detected.
I am not sure if there is any actual speed camera enforcement where tickets are issued, but they can and sometimes do detect speeding vehicles and report the incident to the police.
also who needs a f
king control car to work out an average speed for you, most f
king trip computers can do average speed, so you just need to reset it ging84 said:

ks, ive been through on many occasions as have a lot of club members with a lead car and being the lead car, no one on any of our events got a NIP in the post. Most of the Spec cameras are not in use due to manpower to issue the NIPs in the first place.

I live right next door to the tunnel and pass through it near on every day.
There is one gantry SPECS going in and one going out. There are many cameras throughout the tunnel most of which are for CCTV and are thermal to pick up any potential fires. Unfortunately this doesn't stop Tards going through it at 60 instead of the NSL for a dual carriageway.
An average speed trip computer is way too much faf just have another runner go through with you at a constant speed and as long as you enter and leave with them it doesn't matter what you do in the tunnel.

Didn't realise that. From the angle they are at it looks very much like they measure about 100m before and after the tunnels. Good to know for future reference though, cheers! You need another car to keep time with as such.
