I've gotta say, just watching the 'Half Time Team Talk' on Sky Sports- I think Gary Neville is a fantastic pundit, he's very insightful and gives a really in-depth analysis of the weekend's matches. I think it's great to have someone who has played so recently commenting on the games.

Also, he's not afraid of giving his opinion. Just wish that on MOTD they had the same tools- i.e being able to show the tactics and replays in slow motion with all of the toys. However, I imagine most of the MOTD budget is blown on Lineker's salary...

Anyone else out there rate him?

I'm a Utd fan and was dreading him on Sky, to be honest. For once I've got to admit I was wrong and that he's very good. His 'frog in the throat' moments during commentating Chelsea's Champions League matches last season cracked me up.

I think he is the best analyst out there. I also thnk it's great that SKY have given him the platform to share his views and insights outside of normal commentary duties.

He's just it lost and had an absolute rant about diving and cheating or gaining the edge in elite sport, it was brilliant!

They have - they're called Hansen and Shearer.

Neville is excellent. His analysis cuts through the lazy cliches spouted on MOTD.

The BBC should sack Lineker and replace him with Neville. That would shake things up somewhat!

Wasn't keen on him as a player, great pundit though tells it like it is.

Excellent to watch that was, an honest and brutal assessment of the controversy that happens when trying to gain the edge.

He's on now, repeat of the rant coming up on Sky Sports 1 I think.

Missed the rant. What did he say? He had one earlier in the season when someone moaned it was a foreign influence so Neville pulled out clips of Rooney, Young, Gerrard, Beckham and even himself diving. They then went to slay off Ronaldo so Neville showed clips of Messi diving just to show everyone is at it but some more than others. Personally I think they should have retrospective punishment for diving, even where it is actually a foul but the player exaggerates by rolling around.

Also Wtf is this 'there was contact so it is deffo a foul' is it fk! If you're not impeded get on with it you frigging pansies!

I've never understood pundit preference - Shearer and Hansen may have boring delivery but they say it as it is -they are no fence sitters
Garth Crooks gets it in the neck - but he seems to be getting slagged off for simply stating his views.

I thought it was great when he was slating his bro for diving. As a Leeds fan I can't stand him.... but he is a brilliant pundit and enjoy his the insight into his footballing brain. It makes you wonder if a lot of that has come from Fergie and is what has made him a succesful manager(tt).

He's really good. I dreaded the thought of him signing up as Andy Gray's replacement, but he's been top notch. He did a really good analysis the other week of the Stoke corner v West Ham that turned into a goal, broke it down into all the various roles the players had. And he does it in a way that's not too complicated or over-simplified.

As a Liverpool fan I was close to cancelling my Sky subscription when they signed him. I was wrong, he's a breath of fresh air. A true expert imo.

Seems like a good bloke too, but that can't be right wink

But that's just it. If you analyse what THEY say, it's bugger all compared to the breakdown that Neville gives. I know he has more time maybe ...

"Grit, determination" etc - fk off ... you've been saying the same thing for 10 years ... (on £40k a show)

I thought it was a shocking decision to hire him; no charisma and a bit of a douche.

I have since been proven completely wrong. His analysis is very good and he's amazingly impartial. Best pundit/analyst on tv by a large margin.
