just before junction 10(cheltenham)a police car with an officer pointing a gun accross the bonnet!!

don't try to look for it as you won't see it until its too late as its cleverly parked behind a bush just off the HS.you can't see the officer either until your in range!

for the life of me i cannot understand this as this stretch is an accident nightmare every week!

how is hiding behind a bush causing drivers too slam on their brakes when they see it too late thus raising the chance of a motorway pile up on an already dangerous stretch contributing to safety?

whoever thinks these things up should be shot

These are how the German police catch people speeding...

I think the police in this country are more than fair with:

Yeah, crafty bunch aren't they!?!

I just drove down through Germany to Italy. They have cameras with no flourescent markings and various hidden devices. I tried to set every one off, but didn't see one flash, even on the Autobahn cameras where I was doing XXX mph

(Obviously I was sensible in 70kph limits, most of the time ...).

Street - you keep doing this.

The orginal poster was complaining about a hidden camera in the UK, so you counter with "well, that's how they do it abroad" and show a picture of a non-hidden UK camera.

I really fail to see the relevance.

All respect to you and the other BiB who post on here, but please try to stick to the question at hand rather than diving off on a tangent trying to justify everything every BiB in the country does!

A simple "that's odd, 'round my way we do it differently" would have sufficed!

pdV6..

sorry mate...i do go off at a tangent at times...

Oh..I hope I don't appear to justify everything the Bib do in this country, because I don't think like that...It's just that although I'm not a fan of gatso/truvelos, I do think we have it easy over here and our 'authorities' are more than fair 99% of the time..

cheers..

I was thinking more along the lines of "... dressed as Obi Wan Kenobe or a Jawa"

AFAIK, though, most other European countries don't currently operate a licence points system as the UK does; drivers just get the fine.
I think many drivers (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) would feel happier about cameras if
a) there were no points attached to speeding offences
and,
b) the government was honest about the revenue aspects of cameras instead of pretending they're for safety.

But then, the rich could drive at whatever speed they like. Effectively this would be licensed speeding.
