G5 - what do you think?
Discussion
Looking for a new computer. I need something with an excellent graphics package, plus all the usual essentials for a small office.
I like the look of the G5, but don't want something just for its looks. I want a fast computer with lots of storage and the G5 options allow me to spec a pretty powerful PC.
What would you recommend?

The initial price for a G5 may be expensive, but you get what you pay for. I'm not familiar with the performance of the G5, but I think it compares well with current x86 technology (PCs), especially since the OS doesn't use the G5's full 64bit.
Anyway, you get a Unix workstation which is ready to play out of the box. A few years ago, their prices started at 10k onwards.
The OS will not need as much care, maintaining, patching like a comparable Windows box. People buy Windows boxes, because they are cheap, but then forget to service their system or pay somebody to do so. Calculating the risk between Win-PC and Mac-G5, the Mac comes out with a lot better value for money. If you employ a professional that cares for your Windows computers (or you could do it yourself), the get a Windows-PC.
I don't know what you intend to use with sophisticated graphic chip, but if you consider to create 3D-content or use MCAD applications, you better get a Linux or Unix computer, since Apple doesn't support hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics adapters. If you don't know what I'm talking about, get a Mac
