It really depends on how good the GT4 is.

A well sorted GT4 that has been maintained is lots of fun and very tunable. A bad one can be a nightmare. Id go for the GT4 personally but only once its been thoroughly checked out by a specialist who knows them well.

I always wanted a 300zx. I've owned 2x faffs now. Says it all.

If you do do a GT4, you need this:

07876712927 / 01254679970
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mk-Auto-Repairs-and...

Martin knows more than God when it comes to GT4s.

There are millions of standard mods available to the faff, but all you need is a normal Whiteline ARB, an electric boost controller at 1.2Bar, a recaro interior or a decent drivers seat (bride rails and a cobra misano is fine), late spec tail lamps, clear side repeaters, clear front indicators, and a refurbed set of standard late spec 6 spoke alloys with Avon ZZ3 or Eagle F1's. A Blitz (or better still SARD) ECU is fun but onlyif you want to waste the money. standard discs + TRD Black pads is the best compromise between amazing stops and wasting money. Avoid yellow/red/greenstuffs, Carbotech (so I'm told) too grabby for road use. Any other mods are just expensive.

Join the OC or if you're in the north east the EC (or both) as there are some good people on there who will assist anything you do - just for fun. Great community. The DC is a very much higher grade of specialist people who discuss flow rates in intercoolers and such things rather than "which alloys shoudl I buy?". They are all nice but if you ask a noob question they will have you shot! Lol.

Imports MUST run on Super (Tesco or shell) and once in a while drop some NF Black in there if you wanna really fly (eg track day).

Don't believe the Fig8 rumours... they last well and if they have been done recently they will probably not need doing for another 40k miles minimum (mine did 80k). That's a one-off repair in your ownership, surely?

Insurance is OK via one of the specialsist - I found it to be 60% the cost of a similar subaru Impreza.

Lose any side skirts, front or rear spats - keep it clean looking like the rally car. Get the high wing not the facelift 3 post. A front chin is acceptable (fennies one) as it brings the front a little more aggressively.

All imho of course.

Good luck hunting smile

I've been lurking on the forums for quite a while now.

Thought I'd sign up, as I've owned both of the cars you mention.

I owned a Z32 300zx manual TT last year, it was a good car. Mine was de-spoilered, slight lowering and period wheels. One of the negatives of the car is the lack of space for working in the engine bay, it is really tight. I found this out when replacing a coolant hose on a turbo.

The GT4, I've owned since 2006 and I didn't sell this whilst owning the 300zx (just sorn'd whilst driving the 300). I still drive the GT4, though it's insured as a weekend toy now(limited mileage policy). I've put about 70,000 miles onto the car in this time, as it was a daily for about 4.5 years. It's required a few bits over the years:
Clutch x2 (first was age related, second due to increased power output)
Turbo x2 (one for broken shaft, one for oil seals)
Engine (suspect first turbo caused damage to the bottom end)
Suspension arms (quite expensive compared to other cars)
Mine started out at 240bhp (UK spec), now with the usual stage 1 mods and an uprated ECU it runs 325bhp.
I like the all weather performance and the rarity(although I see more nowadays than I used to).

My advice would be to test drive both, as your choice of driving style will influence your decision.

Now a bit of picture whoring wink

I knew I'd forgotten someting: keep the original Downpipe for emissions purposes, but get a Mongoos exhaust for fruitier noise without being silly noisy.

Unless pre 1995 and an import or 1992. Then Decat all the way a good 3S-GTE will pass emissions with flying colours.

two different cars really - the GT Four probably being closer to the 200sx than the 300zx.

The 300 is a tourer (mind you so is the 200) its softer and less hardcore. They can be hideously expensive to run and if you have not seen in the engine bay, then do so cos there is absolutely no room. Tales of engine removal to replace a leaky hose are common.

Personally as much as I love the 300, I'd go for the GT4...............but If you asked about the GT4 vs 200sx then I'd choose the 200 (but I'm biased)

I've just found a pic of the engine bay of my old 300, tight is definitely a suitable description!

could that intake route be any more tortured?

I assume (as everything was on the car when I purchased it) space constraints lead to that route .

It breathes better than stock though

This is a proper dual intake

I replaced through necessity, one of the Inovit STVI wheels suffered a small crack from a pothole!

The replacement aren't Rota, can't recall the brand, but they were available that day and cheap.

I actually prefer the ride on the 17s compared to the 18s of the white wheels.

Edited to add - TE37s are not multi fitment, easiest way to tell them apart from replicas.
