So I'm up for work and come downstairs to a sad looking cat (who is normally asleep upstairs) then realise he can hardly walk on his back leg.

Work won't understand, got nobody to ask to help, feel that I'm just going to have to leave him at home with a litter tray and sort him out in 12 hours when I get home cry

That's a toughie. All you can do is make sure he can't go out. Any way of getting home during a lunch break?

No chance of getting home at lunch unfortunately frown he's had a problem with this leg before when he slipped on the laminate floor, that seemed to sort itself out within an hour or so. Vet thought he'd dislocated an then relocated his hip. Hopefully this will be better by the time I get home. Horrid feeling though frown

Time to get chatting to your neighbours and find the one who is a cat lover so they can have a spare key and help you?!?!

After previous problems with her cats, when one lost their tail,I think she knows there is no one that can help frown

Do you still have the crate you used? Might be an idea to confine him to the crate/one room until you get back so he can 'rest'.

Although you'll be on your shift now I guess frown

Thanks all, only another two hours to go before I get to check on him. He is the worlds laziest cat so am hoping he's still asleep on my bed.

There is nobody nearby that can help me out, just hope he's ok

The good thing with cats (as you know only too well!!) is they are resilient creatures, more so than dogs a lot of the time. Chances are he will have rested himself smile

I don't think he's moved all day, still limping (hopping on three legs and holding back right leg up under him) just ringing vet now.

frown oh dear. Hope it's nor too bad but unfortunately cats don"t often hold their legs up that much for minor issues. Glad you're able to get him seen today.

He's got an infected paw they think as its hugely swollen, hot and he's got a temperature.

Has had antibiotics and analgesia, I need to starve him and take to own vet in morning.

God only knows how I'm meant to take him and collect him from an op tomorrow when I'm working 16:00-02:00. Can hardly dump him at home post op on his own.

There has to be a local pet sitter or have the vet keep him till your available to collect and look after your cat.

If he needs an op then you could ask them to hospitalise him for the night, It's not that expensive normally and probably peanuts compared with what you will have paid today.

I know the vet I used to use didn't keep animals overnight as they had no onsite nursing teams.

I do use a pet sitter so will see what she says.

If a Vet's has a 'hospital' then they generaly have overnight care too.

Fingers crossed an infection won't need to be operated on, and if it is then they do it when you can pick him up easily.
