Hi there,

currently thinking about a new exhaust system. i am not going to pay a fortune to ACT for their cherry bomb system as it is stock with some cherry bombs in it biggrin

have read a lot of posts regarding to sleeve the exhaust etc. i was thinking of redoing the complete exhaust system with different diameter. as per my measurements the tube that is comming from the cat is 3" and is then going into a y piece with 2x 2" into the silencer and out goes with 2.25" and the last turn you end up with 2.5" The original y piece looks quite bad to me.

my thought had been to ged rid of the 2" bottleneck and instead of going down to 2" pipe would stay at 2.5 all the way until the end. silencer would be replaced with a 2in1 inlet 3" and 2x 2.5" outlet type. so 3" tube directly into the silencer and 2.5" until the end.

from the technical side is there any reason not to increase the tube size to 2.5 ?

Interesting. I wouln't have thought a 3" into 2 x 2" junction on the std system really constitutes a bottleneck as such, it is a modest reduction of area only. Opening out with larger piping should have the effect of reducing gas speeds which may have some technical downsides to it. Sleeving and de-catting give by far the greatest gains, all IMHO of course.

I saw a modded mk1 Capri (big V8) at a car show with 2 big tail pipes, with the cool weather on the day it was easy to see the feeble quantities of exh gas meandering out of the pipe-ends (admittedly on tickover), and it did look a bit daft with that effect. Think I'm talking about that law of diminishing returns.

Had similar thoughts, ground clearance and getting a bespoke pipe to be well tuned to engine could be hard, wonder if a race based exhaust man / company could maximise one! Lots of money me thinks, but great idea! Someone must have done it by now?

Living in the fens, where the lanes are very bumpy and subsided, I clanged my exhaust three times on the bumpy roads this lunchtime. Any systems out there that give better ground clearance?

looks good. tubing is 2.25" as 2.5 would loose some low down torque. has anybody made some tests regarding
the diameter ?

Nasty chassis, beautiful chassis, yeah that's great, I want one! A million yrs ago we used to get exhausts built for little 2 stroke bikes, Terry Beckett I think, they made alot of difference!! When I can afford to do a full dody off it would surely be right to get a system tucked up like that, one day one day. Is it with these big old babies even good tuning makes little difference, back pressure etc?? Who should we speak to who offers such bespoke systems, and can get the tuning right!

I remember that old puppy! A little loss of low down torque wouldn`t go amiss wink stop its tail waggging everywhere! anyways the systems had a bit of jigging from those pics due to heat issues

You don't realise it but your suspension is too soft.

Mine used to bottom out often and with advice I changed the springs to + 20%.

This maid a huge difference, that coupled with setting the ride height correctly resulted in an all round better handling car with hardly any noticable firmness in the ride.
