Just been in to Halfrauds today. I needed a tyre valve tool as I was fitting a new back tyre to my Power Major.

Approaching the trade sales desk (I assumed they would know what I was talking about) I asked the guy where I could find a tyre valve tool. (You know the ones you extract the valve core with?)

"Oh? well we don't do them anymore as there was just no demand for them."

I replied that there are always people who need such a tool and it should be a basic needs kind of item at an automotive warehouse type of operation selling a range of mechanics tools???

Any way, feeling a bit miffed at such a lack of basic tooling, I started towards the exit. Just happened to look across toward some tyre guages, and whoa, there it is, hanging up in its little bag. Bit pricey as usual, but hey I need one and its there!

I picked one up and walked back to the dumbell at the trade desk and waved it at him.

FFS! Who trains these wkers?

You want to see the damage they do to people's headlights when fitting new bulbs we've replaced loads of headlights due to them no putting the bulb in right and it melting or burning out the headlight

You'd probably have had a better response in the bike section.

they did a real bad job on the install of my brothers parrot ipod/bluetooth system. very handy for buying things but you do need to know what you are doing as their help can be a little misleading.

Misleading? Its non existant! They don't even know what they keep in stock or not. I hate paying premium prices for piss poor performance.

Had the complete opposite.Assistant took me straight to the copper washers, they didn't have a brake bleeding kit or any dot4 fluid so he suggested another motor factor company and told me where they was and they had everything I needed.smile

Didn't have any dot 4?

Leigh, I reckon he really copped out by suggesting you go to a company that did know what they were talking about. wink

Seems that way but at least he was helpful.
As for the dot4 a lot of the shelves had very little on them.

How on earth do you not mount a bulb correctly? They're keyed for the most part and there can be no possibility of fking it up due to the 'idiot proof' nature of the mounting. Or are you suggesting Hell-frauds employ a special sort of moron?

Went in today asking about a adapter for my focus speakers from 5x7 to 6"

"sorry they dont exist"

The fkers had one at the back...

Took it to the desk and said "dumb ass" and just left biggrin

Ended up just screwing my speaker into the door.

They have their uses, and occasionally you do get some really good guys behind the desk.

On a Sunday when everywhere else is closed they are pretty good, and with a trade card the prices are hard to beat without a lot of running around.

On the whole 7/10 for Halfrauds. Take them for what they are and they (sometimes, maybe even often) do a good job. Wouldnt let them actually do any work on my car though.

I just laugh when they ask if I want my bulb/wiper blade/air freshener fitted.... Yes please take my hard earned money to make a mess of something that takes me 15 seconds to fit!

^^^^ this ^^^^

Couple of years back the ex mrs' little sister worked for them whilst at college.

They gave a 16yr old female drama student who couldn't work s microwave, less than 60minutes "training" then had her fitting head units and changing headlight bulbs at £5 a time.

She knew fk all, and did iirc cause damage when fitting a head unit to a car.
