Hi all, new here as a member but been about for a while so thought I would post! Basically I dislike these threads but I haven't a clue what car to buy next so a little help maybe! I am a big VW fan and have owned a good few, Corrado G60/VR6/16v's, Golf G60's, MK4 R32/GTI, MK1's etc etc. I now have a bit of cash free but found myself looking at MK4 Anniversary Petrols because I think i'm to blinkered to try anythings else (Previously owned a E36 328i Sport) Had a good 7 hour drive recentley in a EP3 Type R Civic, not for me at all so am I missing anything good out there for around the 4k mark??

I only really knock around in my cars but when we do travel it is over long distances to see family, currently that job is being undertaken by a Mk4 Turbo..

E36 M3, Porsche 944 S2. Although I keep coming back to the Corrado VR6 (on my 5th now!)

Have been looking at Corrado VR's again but would like something newer, possible A3 3.2 is an option but just the timing chain issue on them! Drove a friends E36 M3, very nice but just not for me..

now is a great time of year to be buying a VR6, the Corrado values have really plumeted over winter. Think it will pick up in the spring with a bit of positivity in economy and good weather in the offing, same for any larger engined car I suppose. £4K will get you one of the best available

They are getting to a point now though that they need pampering and if I had a garage at home an older VW would be on the cards but unfortunatly have not, got to be something turbo or six cylinder and modernish..

cheers

So you want a motorway car?

Merc, Volvo, Bmw and Lexus are pretty good for that sort of thing.

Most cars which are really fun to drive are not really designed to feel perfectly at home doing sedate motorway work and are sometimes noisy and hard riding so perhaps a vag would be good for you again as most of them are very dull.

in that case E46 33OCi is perfect, a car for all reasons/seasons (well, assuming you have a set of Winter tyres in the shed!)

Yeah the VAG stable is very boring! The 20vt are ok in a straight line with a map, woeful without and the handling on my mk4 is beyond st.

I suppose I am in 2 minds because I like the thought of another mk2/Corrado/205 GTI but the motorway journey wouldn't be the best in something a little older, suppose it's fear of breaking down and fixing little problems and...rust.

If it was a 330 it would have to be a saloon, cooler looks and M Sport
