decent pub grub around cambridge center

having a friend over from italy and will going into cambridge city , i thought some nice pub grub might be suitable

can anyone reccomend anywhere thats nice with decent portions etc

or any nice sit down fish n chips ?

the chip shop in Burliegh St is really good. J Olivers is terrible. The Rainbow is good for veggies. THe Baron of Beef is a good pub grub place

my mate chefs in cambridge now,he used to work on the tours, and his food is mind blowing.
i can ask where he'd recomend for pub grub if its any use?

Will you have a car to travel outside of Cambridge or does it have to be in the city centre? If you are able to travel, The Plough in Coton, The Willow Tree in Bourne or The Blue Lion in Hardwicke are all good pubs.

In Cambridge the St Johns Chophouse, The Riverside Bar and The Geldart are all good.

All of the above are good food, not too fancy. Chop house for traditional roasts etc, riverside for very good steaks, Geldart for interesting meats like zebra, crocodile etc

i took my missus to the Blue Lion in hardwick new years eve, the food was absolutely devine, the Crispy Hens egg starter is up there with the best starters ive ever eaten, the building itself is lovely too 17th century pub with big fires etc

Thuroughly(sp?) recommend it

I had lunch on the Kingston Arms on Saturday, very good food and beer, good beer but no food in the Geldart later
