PS3 & plasma - audio options

We have a very cheap & cheerful setup - latest slimline PS3 for games & movies, LG 50" plasma for the picture. Also streaming mp3 from a network attached hard disk.
Sound quality through the TV's internal speakers is as to be expected pretty poor. What's the best (ie most cost effective) way to get decent audio & surround sound from both PS3 and TV? Would rather not end up with another blu-ray player which many speaker packages seem to come packaged with...
