UP to buy and restore a big boy?

While many people have said it would never be done, a friend in the US spoke about a article in a magazine that UP had approached the Southern California railroad club with the view to get 4014 back to be restored to working order.

Anyone else heard of such stuff, and more to the point. Do they think it will happen?

I know 3985 is now an oil fired engine, so 4014 would go that route but with the most up to date systems being fitted.
The only issue i can find is the sheer size of the loco means there are only 2 turntables that can handle it. So a turning track would have to be built to get it turned around.

If UP have indeed approached a preservation group about restoring a Big Boy, I believe it will happen; the other way around, no.

UP have other steamers, I reckon they've had a bit of a tot up how much they'd be able to make on steam specials behind the Big Boy, given the costs, and think they can make it work.

I think they're right, because I'd certainly want to go. Tied up with re-visiting Sturgis, the Rockies, The Black Hills, yup, Where do I sign up?
