Wife owed wages from now liquidated company?? What next??
Discussion
The wife worked part time in a local gastro pub and was putting in extra hours to help with christmas only to be told just before christmas that they have gone into liquidation. She was due to be paid last friday for her december hours on the assurances of the owners and low and behold no wages have gone into her account.
We have tried to contact the owners but they are no longer at the resturant and we understand an appionted liquidater is now looking after matters from now on.
I'm guessing I need to track the liquidator down and try and claim the wages back from there.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can do this????
If anyone else can through something in the mix I would appreciate it.
Failing that I may have to pay the the bloke a visit myself

Your wife must make a claim against the liquidated company, via the liquidator. She may receive some payment from the Government's Redundancy scheme.
Visiting the liquidator is pretty pointless; make the claim in writing. I add that the liquidator could in any event point out that this is not the nineteenth century and we do not live under Sharia law, so why should he or she deal with a woman employee's husband? Can your wife neither speak nor write?

Thanks for the advice, I'm not planning on approaching the liquidator simply seeking the advice from you guys. I'm not sure who the liquidators are though this is the problem. Companies House still says they are still trading but I'm guessing this may need to worjk its way through the system.
However I may have the pay for ex-boss a visit if he comes out of hiding that was all I was saying

Leaving aside the quaintly atavistic notion that women can't handle their own affairs, the ex boss is no longer in control of the company, if it has been placed into liquidation or some other form of insolvency process. He can't authorise a payment to an individual creditor of the company, which is what your wife now is. There is a system for dealing with employee claims, some of which are covered by Government funding. This is a consequence of taxation/NI and EU rules (PH bugbears all, but here showing their use). If by "visit" the ex boss you mean attempt to lean on him, that would be a bad idea.
PS: the name of the liquidator may have been published in the London Gazette:-
