Evening.

I know there have been multiple topics on the subject of insurance for us young 'uns lately, but none of them address my question:

What Is My Job?

I have my driving test in the latter part of this month so my first car is getting closer and I am eager to get quotes as you would expect. My question arises as I am unsure on what to put down regarding my job? I am currently doing a Level3 Apprenticeship, so I am still a student (technically) but in a workplace.

Has anyone been an apprentice, and what did you put down? Did you just put the sector that you work in, or a student. There is very little change in cost, but I want to get it right and would prefer to keep my nose clean with the police etc. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. smile

There is an option that is just "Apprentice" this would be sufficient.

Is there? Oops! paperbag

Surely that is the generic option though, and different apprenticeships would be more dangerous than others. Like for me, I would be in an office in my role so minimal risk - but a property based apprenticeship (Brickwork, Joinery etc) would be more of a risk to insurers due to plant equipment nearby. Am I thinking too deep into the matter?

here's a tip for you

My daughter renewed her insurance last year in October

at the time of renewal she had finished college as a student ,her previous insurance listed her as a student + part time shop assistant her renewal was £1250 as a student / shop assistant

when she rang them to say she was no longer a student but now only part time as a shop assistant the renewal went down by £415 smile

As for an apprentice I don't know

Regardless of what the background of the apprenticeship is you're an apprentice.

Can't remember what happened to their insurance when our two moved from college/uni to work so can't really advise, but I always understood that an apprenticeship trained people to master a trade.

Recently, I've seen clerical and retail apprenticeships - is this a way for employers to beat the minimum wage or is there really apprentice training for these jobs now?

When i was doing my apprenticeship i just listed the trade i was employed as (electrical fitter), even when i was at college full time for the first year.

At the end of the day, you are employed, and arn't really classified as a typical student.

apprenticeships are grey area your not really classed as a student(as i found out trying to get student discount) but your also not really classed as working(how they can pay less than minimum wage). when i did my insurance i just listed put down the closest job i could find(electrical tech)
