For a few months, Feb/March/April, in the Wieringen area, Den Oever or Den Helder.

Apart from Google, where could I start in finding a local or National agent with some short term or holiday rental properties on their books?

Don't live up in that direction, but almost all rental and sale properties get advertised through one website. For rents, it's:

http://www.funda.nl/huur/

It's in Dutch I'm afraid but if you chuck in the name of the town(s) you are interested, it'll I've you and idea of what's around and the names of the various agencies.

To follow up on TROC's comments, this search gives you the houses for rent in an area around 10 km's around Den Helder: http://www.funda.nl/huur/den-helder/+10km/

If you use Google Chrome as a browser, you can instruct it to translate the websites into English for you.
