New York and Orlando
Discussion
Looking for a holiday later this year. Little one ideal for Disney, older one wants New York.
So I though let's combine the two.
Open to ideas as to how to get between. Google says its 1,000 miles 15 hours so an easy 2 day or a hard 1 day drive. Realistically as the family feel the miles more than I do it's 2 days.
If we drive on a one way rental it costs an extra £300 (not including fuel on any of these calculations). If we take the sleeper train its circa £600
The big hole though is the flights. Circa £1,000 single to NY, £1,100 return. Orlando is £1,150 return.
The only affordable way seems to be a return flight to either NY or Orlando, but that adds 2 days at each end driving. Internal flights circa £300 return, but then I lose t road trip.
Confused. Advice anyone?

You won't need a car in NYC, so fly there, internal flight to Orlando and pick up the car.
£1k for a flight is silly money, A friend said they'd seen flights in August to Orlando for £750 and we thought that was steep!
You don't need to fly in to MCO, Sanford is nearby or even Tampa if it saves you money.

I'd be surprised if you could average almost 70 between NYC and Orlando, and that road trip won't be much fun for you or the kids. We did Washington DC - Detroit via NYC, Boston, and Toronto years ago, but had 3 weeks.
I'd suggest you get some open-jaw flights into NYC, internal flight to Orlando, and home from there? (or vice versa).
Travel agent can sort that easier (and probably cheaper) than you can on the web.
As said, you won't want/need a car in NYC (in fact, it's probably more of a pain than a help!)

The road trip is 1,500 miles of I-95. Not the most inspiring road as roads go. 1500 miles is, with kiddies aboard, two days at the very least even doing nothing but motoring along and stopping for fuel. That is absolutely no fun at all, and won't be much cheaper than flying once a night's accommodation, fuel, tolls, and rental is taken into account.
