Anyone selling a T5 Box?
Discussion
OK - I'm just recovering after being given a cost of about £1,800 to remove my gearbox and fit a reconditioned one ...
Whilst I'm having a phone around a few more local transmission places to see about getting mine repaired (just a 2nd to 3rd synchro issue) I thought I'd ask on here if anyone has a decent T5 box they'd consider selling?

There is a couple on TVR Ebay m8
JC..
Thanks JC - I'd seen there were a few Tuscan, T-car and Cerbie boxes (plus a £3k new box) which I'd seen and which is why I'd asked the other day whether the different cars all used the same T5 box or whether they were different. JC..

I'm waiting for one of the breakers to text me back about a couple of complete Chims that are being broken up too but have to say that in the past they've been a bit lax at doing so...

Tried the gearbox man for a refurb ?, loads of places do em, gearbox in/out is dead easy, what sort of prices have you been quoted for the refurb on its own ?
I'm phoning round and emailing a few places at the moment - I've had "£150 + parts + VAT" (which came to about £800) from a place "up north" but that's it so far.

Is www.gearboxman.co.uk down / unavailable for anyone else?Bassfiend said:

I can't access it either.Just looking into this myself!
Turns out that the T5 is pretty easy to rebuild - there are even a couple 'how to rebuild' step by step videos available (Hanlon Motorsport and bad shoe productions) aimed at novice builders.
My advice, get a rebuild kit from Hanlon and tackle it yourself on the kitchen table!!

ive been calling gearboxman for a week now, as i need a diff, .just gotten hold of them, theyve moved units (100 yards away as old unit was being knocked down), so theyve lost phones and website for a short while.
I'll drop them a message through their eBay store... CheersGasMunkey said:

I think that depends if you brave enough, id rather leave that bit to the experts, happy to swap a box though
I agree with that, I'm confident with spannering but leave gearboxes and diff's to the experts
Phil, try John Read as mentioned before;
http://www.readmanracing.co.uk/
I sent my box to him on a Monday and had it back fully refurbed on Wednesday.
He may offer a same day "take out, repair and refit", try him.
Cost was £400ish iirc.

Spoke with him yesterday - sounds like his charges are reasonable but he's a fair distance ... If I can find somewhere decent that's more local to where I'd be pulling the box out (i.e. Guildford) then that'd be handy.http://www.readmanracing.co.uk/

He doesn't offer that but he's on my list. Cost was £400ish iirc.
