does anyone know if the later btw hydratrac diffs (such as tuscan) have the same external housing and mounting points as the chim/griff diffs....?

ive got to remove mine for a rebuild, but wondered about fitting a later hydratrac one instead

I could be wrong, but I think the Hydratrac unit fits inside the (BTR) Diff housing.

I'm not sure how you'd tell from 'looking' that one is fitted?

I had my GKN rebuilt at CTS after the pinion lost a couple of teeth - needed to buy another Diff to get hold of a pinion - they stopped making spares a long long time ago....

yep, later TVR were fitted with hydratrac BTR diffs.........i was wondering if i could just fit the whole later diff........or if the cases were different.

i inspected my diff when it was out, and no teeth issues, so i hope it is just sloppy bearings, but if not....plan b was a hydratrac from a later car (if itll fit!!)

Is the hydratrak diff stronger than BTR.

Im in the same boat at the moment with LS engine install. I had a GKN that is noisy, Ive bought a BTR but not fitted it yet.

What's the reasoning of the rear diff mounted to one side? Why not central?

I've had a Chim on a ramp today and can't see anything obvious why

no, its just the version of the LSD. i dont think it is any stronger, but i do like the way the diff works on the road, hence my thoughts about fitting one.

what LS are you fitting?, and gearbox?

when i mounted the BTR in mine (which had a gkn originally), I just remade the rear diff mount offset, so that the diff output shafts remained square in the chassis, and reused the original driveshafts....

thanks all, i dropped the diff into john reid, who can install a hydratrac into the diff if i want, so hopefully (if he can find one in his stock room), itll be rebuilt as a hydratrac

its just the type of LSD. it was fitted to later cars in place of the cone LSD arrangement.

ive had both, and for road use, i prefer the hydratrac, though it is just personal choice.
