997-1 3.6 vs 3.8

Hey guys just looking for a straw poll on choice (apologies if this has been done to death).
On researching for my imminent purchase and narrowing down to a couple of cars I've noted a few comments on dealers really kicking the trade in price of 997-1 3.6 because they are not good sellers.
Maybe I've just been reading the wrong articles but my understanding is journos prefer base 997 and mute as one of the purest modern 911 drives. I also understood that the 3.6 was less prone to bore score and cooling issues in the last cylinder making it a slightly safer bet on engine life?
Have I got these things wrong or is it just the extra cc's and spec largely outweigh the comments above.
I'd be grateful for people's input might help to factor choice when considering resale but also haggling purchase price with dealers, ie if they took car knowing it would be a slow seller is there more margin and possibly willingness to discount.
